RGA121 with emg pickups?

Hi,
I know this question has sort of been answered before but, will an emg 81 and 85 fit in an RGA121 without heavy modification to the body? Would it damage the guitar if i were to fit them? Any tips/help will be appreciated

It should, but if you do a quick search you should be able to find the old threads regarding installing EMGs into an RGA.

no offense, but please don't put EMGs in an RGA121
imo, that guitar has a really nice natural tone, and the EMGs will just kill it.

just don't put an 81 in there, then. I hate it people associate emg's with 81 automatically.
the 85/60A dual alnico combo should be great in it.
EBMM luke mode has alnico emg's and it sounds great.

hmm, so it's a big no no for putting them into the guitar because it could also affect the tone.. how is this? i really like the sound of the 81/85 combo and i can get them for fairly cheap so thats why i was asking if they would fit without heavy modification to the guitar body itself.

Re: RGA121 with emg pickups?

I personally like the sound of the 81/85 combo, but I don't think that I'd put them into a guitar like an RGA because EMGs do such away some of the natural tone of the guitar and the RGA's have such lovely tonewood. Also, I'm pretty sure that you would have to do some modding to the guitar in order to get the pickups to fit, but I'm not sure how much exactly.

Re: RGA121 with emg pickups?

Sorry to disappoint you und to disturb the usual EMG pro/con discussion:

I own a RGA121VLF and had to return a set of EMG89s because they didn't fit in and I didn't want major modifications/routings on my guitar. At least for the neck PU cavity EMGs are way too deep.

I put a pair of Bill and Becky Lawrence L-500s in and never looked back.

Re: RGA121 with emg pickups?

So the bridge cavity is too small for a emg? I put one in the neck and it was a fine fit but didnt try one in the bridge because i didnt want to take off all my strings... they seemed to me about ~1-2mm bigger than a v7/8
