RGT320Q neck back too glossy

They actually had a RGT320Q at a local GC where I went tonight to check out a Diezel Herbert amp (amazing, but for $4100 for the head it better be)and it is a sweet guitar but the back of the neck (like the whole guitar) is SUPER glossy which I didn't like at all. The quilted maple top stain was also much darker brown that the pics on the Ibanez site which was ok but unexpected.

I don't believe the RGT220s have the gloss neck do they? Aren't they more like the RGA121 neck - a satin finish?

The 220A is matte, the H is oil finished.

Yeah, I also played an RGT320Q on Tuesday night at my local Sam Ash and it was sticky. I also noticed that it felt like the thickest neck on an RG I've ever felt (not a bad thing by the way). How'd the neck profile feel to you?

It doesn't really matter if the back of the neck on the RGT320Q is too glossy. My JCRG-2/RG9570 was the same way, but it's a relatively quick fix with a razor blade/scraper and some steel wool.

Really?? It's the thinnest neck Ibanez makes to my knowledge. The neck profile felt very much the same as my RGA121 and the RGA121 they also had at GC when I checked out the RGT320. The dimensions are exactly the same for the RGA121 and RGT320 and most of the RG Prestiges. The profile was perfect to me.

I thought/realized that too when I saw/felt it because I've finished a couple guitars myself but who wants to spend $2000 only to have to mod it? Especially when I can get a RGT220 which is identical specs minus the quite thin quilt top $500 cheaper.

It's not a huge mod for me as I've kinda turned it into something I do regularly when I get a new guitar. After playing on raw wood/tung oiled necks, I even strip down the current satin finished necks(did it on my RG8670 as well). I mean if you don't care about the quilt veneer on the RGT320Q save your money and get the RGT220. If you're really set on the RGT320Q then your always have the option to get rid of the gloss finish(or the finish entirely in my case)

I'd say go with the 220. I have a 220H and i love it to bits. I prefer it to the 320 (looks wise, it's not available here in Japan so can't play one.).

Necks great to play right from the off. No hassle with removing any glossy stuff.

The 320 looks much better in pictures than the one I saw which wasn't bad though. I'm pondering the 220A but wonder how much difference in tone there is between them - 220A/220H/320Q. I'm guessing not much since most of the tone comes from the maple/wenge thru neck since that is what the bridge and pickups is mounted to.

Also, since you have one, I think the AANJ neck is great access but how about that thru neck on your 220H? It's off the hook for access!

The neck thru is frankly awesome. I also have a Jem with the AANJ, and it's also good for accessing the upper frets, but not as good as the neck thru.

I tell you now, a jem with a neck thru i would be all over.

You bring up something I've wondered about: If Steve has say about the Jems, why never a neck thru version as they are typically regarded as "higher end" than bolt-ons (assuming he likes neck-thrus)? A neck-thru Jem with a AAAAA quilt top and matching headstock in a couple different stain colors and maybe even a clear. That would be sweet - but no gold hardware.

i'd guess it's because he beats the crap out of his guitars and bolt-ons are easier to fix.
