RGT42 vs. RG2550 at special prices
I checked the prices. I can get the RG2550EGK for $560 w/o case, and the RGT42 for $400, but the RGT42 is a factory 2nd w/ scratches and a couple unknown problems. The RG2550EGK is brand new. My original plan was to go for RGT42 and then change pickups, but come to think of it, it can add up to $700 w/ guitar and pickups, and the guitar would still be a ****tier built guitar. It's prolly better to give up the extra $160 to get a BRAND NEW, MADE IN JAPAN, BETTER BUILT, BETTER PICKUPS guitar isnt it? Tell me what you guys think.

Re: RGT42 vs. RG2550 at special prices
i'm going for RGT42 b'coz it is
mahogany body
& neck tru compare to RG2550.
it sounding better than basswood.
the PU also 'okay'. if u can accept the PU on RG2550 means u can accept the PU on RGT42.
the playbility... maybe u need to do fret job / dress to get the same playbilty like RG2550. but my RGT42 guitar doesn't need that.
the maple top on RGT42 also beatiful
for your information, i own RGT42SEDR & RG570 to compare.
my 2 cent

I don't see a reason why you wouldn't get the RG2550 for a difference of $160

Re: RGT42 vs. RG2550 at special prices
Yeah,i'd be inclined towards the 2550 as well,no question.
The 42's a re supposed to be decent enough for what they are but when it's a choice between a Jap-made RG and a Korean (or wherever they're making them these days?)i'd go for the MIJ every time.
After owning and playing a few of the newer Jap RG's though i just can't bring myself to buy one of the post Lo-Pro era RG's (i think they introduced the Edge-Pro in '03 or maybe late '02).
I'd personally rather buy a used RG with a Lo-Pro than anything new with the Edge-Pro trem.I just don't rate them at all.
I think there's gotta' be something in the fact that the two top Ibanez endorsee's (Vai+Satriani) won't use anything with an Edge-Pro trem on it and quite a few of the other Endorsee's feel the same way too (the K7 is the only regular production Ibanez that still has the Lo-Pro though unfortunately).
It would be so cool if Ibanez were to admit their mistake and re-introduce the Lo-Pro to all models that currently have the EP but they never will as it's a large mistake to admit to.
Sorry for going off-topic there slightly but i feel strongly about this and i really would recommend buying a used Ibanez with an original Edge or a Lo-
Pro Edge
rather than an Edge-Pro equipped new guitar.

2550, no contest. If you got neck problems with the 42, that's not good. Get the 2550.

Re: RGT42 vs. RG2550 at special prices
2550 , mahogony v basswood is simply preference.... i like both, and when i need them, i got a basswood and mahogony rgs....
Basswood for brighter tones and mahogony for a little deeper tones
As far as between them, 2550 for sure...
I like a natural finish, and the Neck-thru on the rgt42 isnt to special... A proper bolt on will have as much or more sustain than a neckthru, and the AANJ aint keeping you no where you couldnt go with a neck-thru...
The trem on the RGT42 isnt that great, especially if its the LO-TRS version which is garbage....
2550 FTW

Re: RGT42 vs. RG2550 at special prices
You'll probably want to swap the pickups on the 2250 anyway so addd that to your price. Accutally, the RGT42 to is an excellent guitar. The edge pro 2 isn't bad at all, but I keep my tremolo blocked, so theres not much diffence. go with what you like, either way you won't be dissapointed.

The best post ive seen so far regarding the edge changeover. I like the tone chips, I like the fact that i dont lose my string clamps anymore, but i still by far prefer the mechanical functionality of my original
edge tremolo system
.

Re: RGT42 vs. RG2550 at special prices
JTM made a point about the Edge Pro versus the Lo-Pro, and mentioned that it was a mistake. I'm not so sure. Ibanez had to redesign it or otherwise keep paying
Floyd Rose
because the Lo-Pro is licensed, the EP isn't. The only problem I have with the EP is the lack of
locking studs
. The EP is a nice design, I dig it.

Re: RGT42 vs. RG2550 at special prices
I am ordering the RG2550 on Monday. It should be available by the end of next week. This guitar should be better than my first guitar,
Fender Stratocaster
.
