RG3120
Hey guys,
After a little advice if you can spare it!
I have an RGT42DXFM and I've changed my mind about it. I'm thinking about getting an RG3120.
I'm after your opinions on value for money, playabilty, pros, cons etc. all the usual stuff.
I'm hooked on one but i'm not sure whether its worth the jump.
There would be no issues with cash, but customs could pose a threat - I'm in Australia.
Thanks in advance!

Re: RGT42DXFM vs RG3120
Imho the Prestige RG3120 is far superior to the RGT42DXFM. Of course, it costs approximately 3 times as much.
If I had to choose between the two, I would go for the Japanese made Prestige RG3120 without hesitation. I think it's just a better guitar in every way.
Have you checked out the rest of the Prestige range? There's some nice finish, shape and configuration options amongst them. The RG3120 is one of the most expensive, so if you are after something similar, but a little cheaper, there are plenty of options.
I hope you end up with something that makes you happy.
Rock on!

Re: RGT42DXFM vs RG3120
I've never been that impressed with the 3120 for the price they retailed at. A decent used 3120 can be a killer deal, though, even when the top seems to come out of the J-custom litter box.

Re: RGT42DXFM vs RG3120
Two completely different guitars with one being
neck thru
and one being bolt on, one with a REAL maple top and one with a veneer and of course one with a
fixed bridge
and one with an Edge trem (of some sort depending on the year).
The RG3120 is a very nice axe. If you can find one for the right price, jump on it! I'd personally keep the RGT42fx as a backup. I just got one and after playing it all weekend I LOVE it. I did play my RG20th some but I logged in nearly 4hrs of stage time on the RGT42.

Re: RGT42DXFM vs RG3120
Yeah, huge difference between these guitars. It's hard to compare them realistically.
I found a nice 3120 on the Bay for $700 a year or two back. Absolutely mint condition. Good deals can be had and the 3120 is a super solid guitar that's usually well worth it's price on the used market.

Yeah I've found another one I like but found a killer deal on the RG3120 so I think I'll jump at it! Not sure what customs duties are to AU though
Any clues on customs fees?
Cheers

Re: RGT42DXFM vs RG3120
I don't know about customs fees, but I know that the RG3120 retails for approx. $3200 AUD.
I have always wondered how much better the RG3120 is than a $1500 RG1570(even with the V series pickups) or a $2000 RG2550. Anyone out there with an objective opinion?
I noticed one on the bay about a week ago that was going for $1000 AUD(seller was in Melbourne I think), and it looked in pretty good condition. It was a blue flametop, but I have no idea what year. It went unsold, and i've seen it before so it might pop up again soon.
I hope you get a good deal, and a hassle free import process.
Rock on!

Re: RGT42DXFM vs RG3120
Simple as this assuming you are willing to take the risk - ask the seller to state the value of the guitar at something that will equate to a little under $1000 AUD including shipping and insurance - you will pay NO duty or GST, as $1000AUD is the cutoff threshold. The only downside is that if your guitar arrives in a million pieces, it will be insured for about $750!
If you are not willing to do this, then you can add (approximately):
$300USD Shipping (I've had quotes as high as $525USD!!!!)
15% duty and GST on the combined purchase price, shipping and insurance cost (it is actually a little more than this, but as a ballpark figure)
$100AUD fudge factor for customs inspections/holding etc
With reference to the first method, I have shipped two
PRS guitars
and a spankin' Gretsch 6121 Roundup into Australia - no damage, no duty!
..... of course I am waiting for my first disaster to occur .......
Cheers

Re: RGT42DXFM vs RG3120
Yeah I checked out the one on the bay... emailed the guy with an offer and got a one-word response: "SOLD". So I'm a bit disappointed about that!
I suppose I had better keep my options open for now - played an RG2550Z with the new
Edge Zero
trem and it played like a dream, sounded like music to my ears
So I might save another $1k and give that one a go!
Such a shame about the shipping prices, it'd make it a lost easier if it were more reasonable.
Cheers guys
EDIT: By the way, with the first mentioned in the post above - Am I right in thinking that the guitar that'll cost about $700 AUD not inc shipping fit in the bracket?
