S body and comfort
I was playing my mate's S1620, it's lovely even though he had it strung so his top 3 strings were 8's and his low E was a 56 gauge (silly eh?). But all S models I've tried (including one I own) get really uncomfortable after a while for me, my right arm starts to ache really bad. I don't have this problem on RG despite the fact that the RG body has fewer ergonomic considerations. Does anyone else notice this?

Re: S body and comfort
I actually think those are pretty comfortable guitars but then again I'm a short skinny guy....
Maybe that's why I like the EB/MM JPM so much.

Second only to the JS/Radius in comfort, IMO.

Re: S body and comfort
My S is the only Ibanez I have kept in the last 10 years, every other one has been sold (mainly due to financial reasons),

Re: S body and comfort
I loved my S540. Very comfortable guitar and light as a feather.

Re: S body and comfort
It could be a result of simply how you rest your arm/body on the guitar's contours. Since the edge of the S body is so thin, depending on how much weight you put on it, and where you rest it, it could cause some discomfort for sure.
I just got a 04 S470DXQM NF a few weeks ago, and similar to my SG, if I lean to much weight on it for too long it cuts the circulation in my arm a bit, very uncomfortable.
Any how I guess its just those nuances, everyone holds thier axe different.

Re: S body and comfort
I have an S 7420 that I find to be very comfortable compared to my PWH and 7620s, it is by far the most comfortable guitar I own, the body is perfect actually.......for me anyway.

Re: S body and comfort
I love the feel of my '04 S470DX. It's so lightweight and easy to play. If it had 24 frets then it would be perfect as I am quite used to RGs but it is still a very nice guitar and I love the tone I get from it.

Re: S body and comfort
I dont know but S series doesnt feel light at all (yeah with that ZR tremolo). Its pretty comfortable, its better than superstrats and so on, but however a radius is still more comfortable and lighter (but again its basswood)

Re: S body and comfort
IME Sabres are as light as radiuses. The wood's heavier, but there's less of it. All my guitars of BOTH models were about 7 1/4 lbs. My sabres were old edge equipped ones, though.
My LIGHTEST guitar is my 6 1/4 lb SC620 - a sabre, but with no trem.

Re: S body and comfort
From what I've noticed, the S series guitars after 2003 vary considerably in weight. Mine is an 04 and it has got to be one of the lighest guitars that I've ever played before in my life. I've actually played a few other 04s and they were quite a bit heavier...more on par with my RG. I've even played that new one with the little scratch claw inlay and it is pretty heavy by comparison with mine. This isn't just limited to the S series, though. I've noticed that the weight of RGs also fluctuates a bit. Case in point, I've got an RG321MH and it's basically as light as my super light S series guitar but the other guitarist in my band has the same model and his is a bit heavier. Tonally they sound more or less identical but his surely weights 1/2 pound to a pound more.

That would probably be it actually, the way my arm presses on the edge. With the RG it's nice and thick and has that contour at the corner (whatever you call it) and it's nice for me.
