S-Series debate

So, im going to purchase an s series soon, i'm either going to buy an S470 or an S2075FW. The 470 is under half the price and has all that i'm looking for, Both are korean made so how are the korean prestiges? do you think that this Prestige will really be worth double the price? also, The prestige has the D-tuner installed which will come in handy but does that mean that it is Version one of the ZR? i really hope to but version two.

Thanks

Thumbs up

Re: S-Series debate

I have a 2170fw and i think it's an amazing, korean made guitar. I couldn't find any flaws with it, but as you can see in s-mans 'crooked prestige' thread, he has had some mik prestige problems. As far as what version zr it comes with, im not quite sure. I do know that my korean prestige plays and feels just as good as any team j craft guitar.

You have two thumbs up from this s series fan!

Re: S-Series debate

The Prestige is a better guitar. I've played the s470, and a friend of mine has the s520ex. If it were not for the issues in the Crooked Prestige thread. I wouldn't hesistate recommending it. I'm not sure but I think the version with the drop D tuner is version one.

I see why they eliminated it on newer models. The Low E side fine tuner has enough range to allow Drop D tuning, just by using the fine tuner, on the newer model. I can Drop D tune my s2170 in 30 sec.s or less.

I recommend the S prestige. But you should inspect it VERY closely.

So buy the korean if it has the features you want then. You wont be able to resell either for half what you bought them for anyways

Re: S-Series debate

S2075 has better pickups, better quality and maybe better materials so that's why it costs more.

Re: S-Series debate

Not to mention those were sold with cases which should be at least $100.00 differance.

The neck is the biggest differance. It has a fancy top and finish. The prestige plays alot better, even the korean ones.

etc.

Re: S-Series debate

Prestige is the way to go, IMHO.

Version 1 Didn't have the Knob to adjust the spring tension (tooless)

You had to use an allen wrench. Sometimes that mechanism will break. Some people have never had a problem.

Judging from how much trouble people have setting up a trem. (Read...not very mechanically inclined.) They probably broke it as a result of stupidity.

I'm not sure.

Just like the locking stud on the trem post of the knife edged trems.

I have a new threory.....Ibanez didn't remove them as a cost saving measure. They removed them because people were forgetting, or did not know, to loosen them. As a result, they were breaking stuff.

You know the type.

People that think that they don't NEED to read the owner's manual.

Anyways.....Good luck.

Re: S-Series debate

I have the S2075 and it is the type 2 trem. I also have the S2170 and I like the oiled finish better than the high gloss of the S2075, but I like oiled finishes. I put fret markers on both my necks cause I just couldn't get used to playing without them. The necks are identical, in fact the only difference between the two is the finish. I have also owned S470's an there is a big difference between the necks. The big upsid of the prestige is the neck. Pickups can be changed out easily enough and all the new models have the type 2 ZR.

Re: S-Series debate

I know...

That thread has already been referred to....Bocephus:

"I couldn't find any flaws with it, but as you can see in s-mans 'crooked prestige' thread"

That being said...ALL of the current S series guitars are made in korea, including the prestige.

So you don't have a choice if you want a new S series guitar.

I mean... I could recommend a RG prestige or a J.Custom.

You are almost 100% certain to get a good one.

OR maybe a Used S Prestige, when they were made in Japan.

Is the S2075 new? I'm assuming it is.
