S5470 Prestige Issue

Bought a new S5470 Prestige around Christmas and happy enough with it apart from one thing.

Problem seems to be with the pickup selector in positions 2 and 4. It sounds pretty awful. The 6th and 5th strings have decent output with a good bit of bass but once you hit the D, G or B strings the volume total fades and it sounds incredibly tinny.

I've never experienced this before, so I'm not sure if it's an issue with the pickups or what. Seems coincidental though that it happens with both bridge and neck pups.

Sound from bridge & neck pickups (pos 1 and 5) is fine. I bought it online from the States (I'm in Europe) so can't get the supplier to check it out easily, he told me to bring it to a guitar tech to check out.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

raise the middle single coil. It sounds like someone set it far too low and thats why you're not getting much output from it. The problem is less pravalent on the thicker strings, because theres more ferromagnetic mass there for the pickup to sense.

Or wire it in parrallel as opposed to series. More output, without it obstructing your picking.

Thanks GuitarBizarre.

I tried raising the height of the single coil pickup, and it didn't fix the problem. While the output from the middle position has improved, the noticeable difference between the middle two strings (really low and tinny) and the other strings on positions 2 and 4 is still really prevalent.

Perhaps it is something to do with the wiring after all. I'd be reluctant to mess about with the insides so early in the guitar's life - best to send it back to the supplier?

Thanks mate, I really don't want to be going inside it just yet though. I could take it to a tech but perhaps it's best just to send it back?
