Scared!

My guitar just scared the **** out of me!

I was putting new strings on it, and when I removed the last of the old strings, one side of the tremolo slipped or something, and ended up on top of the screw where you adjust the string height (don't know the names of all the parts of the trem, so it's hard to explain).
And I was standing there with the whammy bar holding the ****ed up trem in one hand, and the rest of the guitar in the other and cursing like hell.

I managed to get the trem back into "place", but it scared the **** out of me. Is this "normal"?? What should I do ??
Answer quickly please!!

Re: Scared!

Did you take all the strings off at once? Normally, I take one off, replace it, and move on to the next. Otherwise you should block the trem because you still have all the pressure from the trem springs pulling on the trem.

Yes, I do take all the strings off at once, but believe me, this is not the first time! AND I always block my trem so this was an odd experience...!

Re: Scared!

I think I've had something similar to that happen to me before. I wasn't really scared though because I don't that there really isn't anything attaching the bridge to the guitar except for springs and strings and if you take one of those off then it's very possible for your whole bridge to come out. I always change all the strings on my guitars at the same time as well because it's a hell of a lot faster and I just make sure and block the trem to a point where it is slightly sinking into the body of the guitar so that I don't have that problem. Once I get all the strings on it and bring them up to tune, the trem returns to it's normal level and I remove the block.
