Serial #'s... - Dating guide?

Ok, I've heard that the fist # after the letters is for the year, and after that, the production #. But the way I understand it, this was only for the Japanese "factories" where guitars are *pumped out en masse. Does this hold the same for the UCEW, USRG, etc.? Or was there a different system *used on these? The serial no. on my USRG is US0894072. So how would I be able to tell what year it is?

Serial #'s...

check the catalog scans to identify the model/year. See GUITAR area on jemsite. The USA Customs (1990-1991) have the japanese F style serial numbers with "USA MADE" on the headsotck. full date on them (1992-1993) etc but the USRGs i am not 100% certain about. some had the serials like
US1195191

which the third digit is 1995. Some had no serial numbers in which case remove the neck and look for a date in the pocket and on the back of the neck.

What model is your axe? ... glen

I'd look at the 1994 catalog scans. Odds are that is the date... glen

Glen,
So it would read something like this;

US08 = Model
94 = Year produced
072 = Production number

?

Makes sence.
