shaping and neck joint on j custom

just curious if anyone else has noticed that the j custom bodies are shaped a lot more at the neck joint? what i mean is the acess is easier than either my rg or my jem and it is visibly so, heres a pic .

I noticed it, but can't explain it. You'd think it would be as simple as reprogramming the CNC machine on the production line to get the additional shaping on the other RG's. Maybe they figure the high-production models will be subjected to more abuse and want more meat at the joint.

heres another question , why are all the rear cavity plates metal? anyone tell me why as i cant see a reason.

have heard that it increases shielding of the electronics.

my rg3120 has metal - my rg1302 j-custom has plastic...

Plastic doesn't shield, you need conductive paint over it (or a special plastic with carbon or metal particles) Metal covers don't need conductive paint, but you will still have to paint the cavitiy. Plus the metal plates will be very heavy.

@Damo7v: are you sure the cover is metal, not just painted metal?

Most metal plates need paint against corrosion, this would then break up the conduction between the painted cavity and the cover, resulting in RF leakage. So it would require additional grounding wires from the body to the plate...worse case: your metal cover becomes an antenna, do'h!

A smart luthier will use whatever he wants for a cover (but not metal) and paint both...guaranteeing condution and therefore RF-shielding.

@Bezial: the electrics/-onics inside your guitar will pick up radio and other stuff if you don't have shieldling.

Exclusive luthiers use wooden covers (and pickguards)

He means the metal cover plates are aluminum(if thats what you meant by which ones and aluminum is a ****ty conductor). Although I prefer wood covers (esp. ebony covers). Although I don't see how a cover can become an antenna unless it comes in contact with something metal under the cover.
