So many choices!

hey, i'm planning on getting a RG 2550E. Im getting it cos it's my 16th. So i plan to take this guitar with me throughout my life. But i wanna change the pickups. I was thinking of putting a Tone Zone in the bridge but i dunno about the neck and middle. Any suggestions?

Many Thanks

Reece

Japan-Custom, I think. It's a series of high-end models manufactured and distributed within Japan only. Apparently the quality is higher than Prestige. Here's the current line-up (with one recent 7-string model missing): http://www.ibanez.co.jp/japan/produc...e/frame_j.html

EDIT: There's also a relevant thread here: http://www.jemsite.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1826

Re: So many choices!

It's quite funny....

Rekuss, you're 16.. so I guess you haven't played that long the guitar... Another question: have you already tried the guitar you want??

You don't even have it, and you already have decided to change the pickups... wow... smart move dude... but why? because some guys said on harmony central that IBZ DiMarzio pickups S**cks?!? come on dude are you that stupid not even try the guitar before taking that kind of decision?

And if you have played guitar for 1 or 2 years, I doubt you will be able to tell the difference between a Tone Zone, A IBZ DM, an Evo or even a seymour duncan.... But do it, spend your bucks to make that change so you can tell your friends that you have installed a Tone Zone on your guitar....

If that's your motivation, then you are a TROLL!!

And you just don't even know what JCustom are....

Re: So many choices!

+1 on the Air Norton/Blue Velvet/Tone Zone - I had these in my RG8670. I have a PAF Pro in the neck now, still trying to make my mind up between that and the Air Norton. Could be a good excuse to get another RG ehehe.

The IBZ DiMarzio ain't bad, you should definately give them a good tryout if you havn't already. Could save you big bucks.

Casper, I don't know how much you visit here, but the kinda stuff you were spouting isn't what Jemsite is about. You didn't have to call him stupid for wanting to change the pickups if he hasn't heard them properly, just advise him to give it a proper test drive before he does. It costs nothing to be polite.

Not trying to be bossy, just giving you a heads-up before you get collared by a mod!

Re: So many choices!

hey thanks for the tips. I have played the guitar and i know this is the one i want. I just was wondering what pups you think would sound pretty good as i want to make this guitar sound the best as it can be. I think that was a bit harsh seeing as you don't me but i understand why you got pissed.

Re: So many choices!

the paf pro [std pu for all the early jems] is always a good choice.
its not as loud as an evo but really singing.
i have an rg [my first ibz - now more than 15years old…] what is equipped with a tone zone [bridge] and a paf pro in the neck.
really good combination, the tz has a lot more output than the paf, but you get used to that

You'll probably get a 100 different opinions as to what would sound the best.
Personally I don't like the Tone Zone, though that seems to be the minority opinion of it.

Re: So many choices!

On such review sites as Harmony-Central, averyone slates the stock DiMarzio bridge pup I have in my Musicman Silhouette Special, and just the bridge. I've changed the neck and middle to 'better' DM's, but the bridge sounds perfect to my ears...
Depends what you want to play really. I'd suggest trying out the Ibanez for a little while first, and messing around with pickup heights etc.; it really can make quite a difference with this sort of high-output pickup.
Anyways, good luck, and congrats on your 16th present-to-be! I got an Ibanez at about 15 and it's done me extremely well ever since. In fact, I gigged it last night! Saying that, it's got an Evo and Breed in it, and the bridge Evo is just... *drools* ... perfect...
By the way, I'd recommend evilbay for pickups, and secondhand or from the US. Under £40 each that way. so if it isn't quite what you need then it's not 80 quid down the drain!

Dan

ps - nice band name btw!
