So... say I wanted an rg with maple board, fluorescent color and AANJ
Where would I look?
Late 90's, early 00's rg's?
Buy a 2550 and refinish, install a new
maple neck
?

If you want a Prestige, the 1550 is what you are looking for.

Why? Because that's the cheapest Prestige going? 1550s have been discontinued I believe, wouldn't it be best to get a 1520 or whatever they're hawking right now?

the 1520 has a
rosewood board
. either 550 late 90s or better 1550

I would get a 1993-94 550. It has the LoPro and AANJ.

Yes the 1550 is gone, but I thought you were looking for used anyway. I am not aware of any Prestige model that gets a
maple fretboard
.

metal_gods...
you look for a Ibanez RG550 late 90s (AANJ) or RG1550, they have maple fingerboard... and then, you (or a luthier) paint it in the color that you like.
i did that with my RG550 Black (1999):
(sorry for the big pics)
regards and good luck.
Daniel.

That looks awesome DaniJem. Thanks for confirming my thoughts on the matter.
I'm going to look the bees nees on stage with my fluorescent RG. People are going to come from afar and say "where did you get that" because noone will have seen the likes before. And then I'll start a trend.

My
guitar tech
has a 550dy with aanj
It just sits in the shop with a "not for sale" sticker on it. Every time I go in I am like "yp, wrap that up for me and i'll give ya £50.
I continue to be disappointed.
The moral of the story is............
The flourescent coloured rgs with aanj are out there.

Yeah, Ibanez did release a limited run RG550DY with the AANJ, but that's going to be very rare to find. Your best bet is a late 80's 550.

Re: So... say I wanted an rg with maple board, fluorescent color and AANJ
I'm hearing the rg550dy with the AANJ had a wizard II, can anyone confirm this?
Even more reason to get a 1550 and have it refinished.
What do you think, desert yellow, roadflare red? I want it to look FLUORESCENT, ya know?

Mine has a Wizard profile with a maple board and matching DY headstock and is a 94. The 95 cataligue shows the DY moves to a rosewood board and
black headstock
but still the wizard profile neck.
Hope that helps.
