Steve's Special on J-Custom

Did some J-Custom had Steve's Special as bridge pickup or was it USRG? I was just thinking because I think that I saw one with Steve's Special.

Re: Steve's Special on J-Custom

I have a Steve's Special on my new Jem Project NAT... The pickup has a much cleaner tone to it then a evolution, but still has some of the gain you are looking for as a lead pickup.

I have also Steve's Special in one of my guitars. Great pickup and very clean even with very high gain that's why I bought it and I like it. Best pickup for fast picking stuff.

Re: Steve's Special on J-Custom

I think either the RG1602, RG1608 or the RG1680 had a steve's special in the bridge. Forgot which one but I'm pretty sure one of them had it. Although the most commonly found combination is the TZ/BV/AN there are other combinations on some of the other more obscure models.

I'll have to buy myself a Steve's Special sometime to see how I like it.

Re: Steve's Special on J-Custom

What I can tell from the pickup so far is that the notes do not mud together like the Evo's do, during faster picking.

J-customs:
1999 RG1680
1999 RG1680AM
2000 RG1680
2001 RG1880
2001 RG1680x
2001 RG1680
2002 RG1680x

No USRG/UCEW/USA Custom I know of comes with the SS. A few prestiges do.

Re: Steve's Special on J-Custom

The Usa Custom line more or less predates the Steve's Special so none of them could have had an SS in them stock.

Clear is the right word, that's what I meant. It does react to gain, some pickups are muddy and messy with much of gain but SS is kinda cleaner than some others but I think the clear is the right word.

Re: Steve's Special on J-Custom

Thanks for the info guys, it's great to know! And yep, SS was introduced '95 so it wasn't in USA customs then.

The term 'clean' can also be used here.
