tone control and hiss

When I turn tone control up, more than 6, I hear "hiss" from my amp. I changed the guitars and directly plug in to amp with clean channel and still hear the hiss. But if tone control position under 5 even volume is up, it’s fine. Is that normal or something wrong?

I've got a few questions...

1) What kind of amp do you have?
2) What guitars did you use when testing the alleged hiss?
3) How is your rig set up?

There are a number of things that can create hiss in your sound. Post some answers and people can try and give you suggestions for getting rid of the hiss.

1) Solid State 30 W Roland Cube
2) JEM 90 and RG 2820
3) I bypass effect and straight plug in to the amp (I got hiss when I go through GNX4 as well)

It's pretty normal.. Turning the tone pot down attentuates the treble. what you're hearing is just white noise/pink noise.

Solution: Noise Gate.

How long ago did you purchase the amp? Have you called Roland to discuss the issue? I've seen that a few people online have had the same problem with this amp, so I would call Roland and see what advise they can give you with regard to settings. I'm assuming that when you were running it clean, you had it on the acoustic setting, correct?

Hiss can also be casused by bad cables as well. Try using a different cable and see what happens. When you had the GNX4 plugged in, was the hiss louder? If the GNX4 has a noise gate, turn it on and see what happens. Try using both guitars again, so when they start hissing, turn the volume down to zero. If the hissing is still there, then you know it's not the guitars. If the hiss goes away, it could simply be that the pickups (since they're high output ones) are picking up a lot of noise (which basically means they're doing their job).

ok..its not cable problem. I changed the cables.

I think its noise gate issue because different patches produce different reaction. It's fine in some patches.
