Tuning stability

Hi I am fairly new to this forum. I just bought an Ibanez Prestige RGT220H.
Obviously I need to change the pups in this guitar as I do not care for the stock pups. Very nice guitar, but I do have issues with tuning stability. I balanced the tremolo bridge, put new strings on and "stretched" them like crazy. Now when I lock the nut and do a few dive bombs, and check the tuning, I have to use the fine tuners quite a bit to tune back to pitch. Sometimes the fine tuner bottoms out in doing so. What else can I do to improve the tuning stability? Should I go crazy with the whammy and then unlock the nut, set fine tuners midway and retune a couple of times?
Thx
Kev

Re: Tuning stability

The fine tuners should be more or less in the middle when you start off and the strings should be stretched quite a bit more than you would for a guitar with a fixed bridge. I used to have tuning problems with my RG but I quickly discovered that I hadn't stretched the strings nearly enough. I generally stretch all the strings GOOD atleast 3 times and twice as many times with the bass strings.

Re: Tuning stability

The problem could also be trem related. You get wear between the locking pins and the trem edge so when it can move when the whammy bar is depressed. A tech will be able to file the slots to fix the problem.
