Two Customs

Hi all. I have only recently discovered the high end Ibanez product and so this is my first post post here although I have been lurking in the shadows watching and learning and plotting my next move.

So in the last fortnight, armed with my new found knowledge from here I managed to score a 8470Z from Japan. Jeezis H Cryst what a weapon !! Its and absolute work of art and is a pleasure to the eye and the touch. Such quality! I'm blown by it. So much so that after an hour of playing I decided that I would no longer has any desire to play my 05 Plus Top Cherry LP Classic. So that was put up for sale.

Unable to find a suitable purchaser, a deal was made on a 1992 UCMD1ST plus a wad of cash to top up the bank account after the J-Custom purchase.

The Serpent arrived today. Its been used and has a couple of chips here and there and the fret board is quite discoloured but it plays mint and sounds cool as. Got a bit of fret wear but still tons of life left. Thought I might clean the fret board. Any tips for a product suitable for the old maple?

Also the bridge pickup reads "IBZ USA F3'". Nothing on the neck pup. And compared to the 8470 they sound mud. Any recomendations on what would be a good replacement? Its gona get a good cross section of styles from Dirty Blues to metal and maybe slightly beyond.

Any way sorry to blab on so much. I'm just a little exited !!

What a sweet couple of guitars you have gotten for yourself! I'll tell ya....once the J-custom bug bites you, you'll never shake it!

I have the following pickups in the bridge position of each of my 3 J-Customs:
1.) Dimarzio Evolution
2.) Dimarzio Super 3
3.) Seymour Duncan SH-14

All 3 make my axes sound different and unique.

Re: Two Customs

Cool and cheerz. Your right about the JC disease. And I see why. They are just the finest instrument ! And I can see myself wanting more. Dump the Gibsons and Fenders and fill the rack with top end Ibanezs ! YES YES YES !! A HA HA HA. Now if you will just excuse me, I'm off to buy a black balaclava and a sawn off shotgun.

Just wondering what the Evolution pickup sounds like in the J Custom???
I don't like the Tone Zone in one of my J Customs, but the Evolution in the Vai Jem is very tight and clear.

Re: Two Customs

It's the same in the J-Custom! I love the clarity on leads and in the neck position it is absolutely amazing! I dislike the Tone zone as well. I took them out of both of my J-Customs that had them in there. One I replaced with a Super 3 in the bridge and the Evo in the neck and the other I put the Evo bridge and neck pickups in. Even though I'm using an amazing amp (Diezel) I found that the TZ pickup just wasn't all that responsive to my ears or my playing style. Others, of course like them and everyone has their own perception of what sounds good to them. I liked the extra output of the Evolutions as well.

Might make the move to Evo in the bridge....
My other J Custom has the Seymour Duncans.....SH-2 and Custom 5.

Thanks for info man.
