it almost comes down to "looks". IMHO these are similar quality. I know a small minority don't like the USRG's tension-free neck, but then again many dislike the "wizard" neck too. Can't go wrong with either... glen

ps - moved to proper forum

i'd figure the usrg to be more "collectable" if the guitars are the same condition and remain in the same condition, since they're american made and in smaller quantities.

go here for all usrg specs

I definitely like the looks better on the USRG30 but I definitely prefer the sound of the RG3120 (I guess I just prefer the sound of mohagany bodied guitars). Also, the body curves on the USRG30 are much shallower, making the guitar feel unusually bulky, compared to a standard RG (this can be attributed to the USRG line being made by PBC guitars rather than Ibanez). These little things are pretty trivial, there are many people who wouldn't mind or even notice the shallow body curves or might even prefer the tone of the guitar but having owned them both side by side I would go with the RG3120 even though the USRG30 has everything I have ever wanted (cosmetically) in a guitar.

Both the USRG30 and the RG-3120 are great guitars. I also preferred the look of the USRG30, but liked the tone tone of the 3120 better.

You could always get the both of best worlds and search for a nice USA Custom Exotic Wood model!

I've had 5 of them, and loved them all. You get great, 1/2" thick figured maple tops, with nice mahogany bodies.

Here's my most recent acquisition:

Both are great guitars...I prefer the USRG30. Surprises me since I'm a big mahogany fan...the alder/maple has a nice bright punch.
