Steve's Special and Humbucker from Hell maybe? Before Petrucci used the Air Norton he was using a Humbucker from Hell in the neck slot.

Black base plates mean nothing, DiMarzio will make any pickup with a black base.

I have a PAF Joe with a Dimarzio logo in the front with the same poles.

Cool

Re: very rare Ibanez RG 4020 QMBS

Ok...
I think it's time to change strings this evening ;o)
I'll let you know, if I could find out what humbuckers are in there...
I ever thought it is the Air Norton in the neck position because of the really "original" sounding in the middle position.
It's really something special and it sounds really like "Pull it under" ;o)
Maybe this is only because of the humbucker splitting and the sound could be produced with nearly every humbucker.. who knows?

Well ... in nearly 11 hours (I'm at work now), hopefully we (I) know more about that (o;

It would break my heart to give this beauty away...
But everythings pointing that I have to...

Yes, I know that Lefty Robb, but I don't think Ibanez would place such an order for DiMarzio for a limited run of a guitar. IMHO...

Re: very rare Ibanez RG 4020 QMBS

Hmmm...
just put the strings of...
I'm a very bit dissapointed. On the back of the humbuckers isn't really a hint, what humbuckers these are.
Both look the same from behind.. but on the front the polpieces are a little bit different...
Here's a pic of the Neck-Pickup (from behind)...

Does anybody see something that points to the name of the humbucker?

Re: very rare Ibanez RG 4020 QMBS

I've just been at Dimarzio.com and looking at the polpieces, it should be a "Steve's Special" at Bridge and a "Humbucker from Hell" at Bridge-Position.
So..it could be the early Petrucci setup. Well, not so far away because it's a guitar with his influence ...

On the Petrucci-forum (http://www.petrucciforum.com/forums/...ad.php?t=25539) they say, that John was a big supporter for the AirNortons (but played a Humbucker from Hell in Studio and live) and mostly replaced the Steve's Special with a ToneZone and D-Sonic.

@The Orange Channel: You have very good eyes, man. You pointed on this combination first

The code is probably under the black foam.

You're right... the Code for the neck-HB is .. tadaaa... DP156 = Humbucker from Hell...

Because of possibly being forced to sell this beauty, i didn't want to take out the bridge-HB and pull down the foam, because the electric wires are a little short....
Don't want to destroy something there...

So things leed to the petrucci setup SS and HOH....

Nice sound ;-)
Just cleaned the whole guitar .... *hmmmmmm*

Re: very rare Ibanez RG 4020 QMBS

Well.. I just took the chance to make some pics of the finish while there were no strings on the guitar...
I made them without flashlights to get close to the original color of the finish.
Nevertheless, I should buy a new camera soon )
Here they are...

Greetings,
Andre

your camera is much better than my nikon pocket cam, it captures the true beauty of the guitar's finish. I don;t think you should buy a new camera.
