What I Hate About Ibanez

First let me say I'm a huge Ibanez fan.

Now my pet peev....
Why do they change parts so much? If the Edge trem was better than the TRS why use it, then go to another version of the Edge. The dumbest thing is the trem are not interchangable from what I understand.

Theres about five guitars I like that I've found used all with the TRS trem, and from what I've heard I'd be stuck with it! And parts probably are hard to get for the TRS since they probably don't make them anymore.

Just use a Floyd Rose, at least they are consistant and the quality is just as good as the Edge and better than the TRS.

Makes me wonder how long the ZR will be around?

Re: What I Hate About Ibanez

the ZR is one fine thing... i hate ibz for not doing 24 fret versions of the s series...... or offering the trem on other guitars....
simply using the floyd rose on all guitars would be dumb... i mean, they are a big company offering a lot of guitars with different trems on them --> you are able to pick from this variety.....
the reason they use the TRS is obvious , isn't it? it's for those low-priced axes...
the price oftenly defines the quality... of course it needn't be a jem, as you pay for the name, but a good jcustom or prestige would always be a good run for your money and you won't find any TRS on them (do you?)

Re: What I Hate About Ibanez

it pisses me off that they did away with putting the original edge on guitars. That is one of the best tremelos i have ever played. The ZR is a very cool trem as well, it is a bit over engineered to me but it is an excellent trem.

I know that the edge's patent under floyd rose has something to do with them not being put on guitars anymore or rather not wanting to put them on thier guitars. but i think that the patent runs out for floyd soon so ibanez should be able to get the edge or a bridge that is the reincarnated edge back out.

I belive that ibanez gets charged 11$ on every trem that is still under patent.

Re: What I Hate About Ibanez

I really wish they'd make a 24 fret S series guitar, it's a shame there isn't a surefire way of letting Ibanez here what the consumers want, as i'm sure there's a lot of other people on jemsite alone who are interested in a 24fret S.

i don't know why people keep asking for this. it'll never happen, because it's not possible with the S design to make the fretboard any longer without removing the neck pickup. you can't just magically throw two more frets on there -- the the body and the location of the neck heel have to be designed for it. the next time you have an S and an RG in the same room, hold them up to each other back-to-back. they're the same scale length, but where that 25.5" inches is split between the neck and the body is very different. you might as well as for a 944 with four-wheel drive.

I can help you out with this.

First, Jackson doesn't use the TRS or TRS II at all. Jackson uses Original Floyd Rose trems on their USA models (their high end models), and its own licensed, Jackson-branded Floyd (JT580LP) on its lower end models.

Second, the Jackson-branded Floyd works fine, which is probably why people praise it.

Re: What I Hate About Ibanez

I respect the fact that Ibanez offers a Edge and a ZR, both good, my Jem has the Edge and I've played a S that is killer.

My problem is I wish they would design them so they could be replaced. There are a lot of good Japan Ibanez guitars (4XX) that have TRS trems, not to mention the one PGM 30, and if you buy them it's impossiable to get parts for worn out parts and you can't put the better Edge in.

If anyone has done switches between bridges I'd like to know because it would be worth the cost on some deals on used guitars.

This is not exactly correct, the jackson branded floyd is used on guitars in excess of 700-900's retail, and is just a much a peice of pooh, as the trs design, subject to the same design flaws as the ibanez version. Both are milled, peices of CRAP. At least ibanez has kept their high end design on their 500 retail guitars, leaving them in the range of affordability for players. Even the guys at the jackson charvel forum will tell you straight up they would prefer an original floyd to the licensed versions on their jacksons.

You know, comparing to the Lo Pro Edge on my 7620 and UV, the TRS on my S 7420 isn't all that bad....it took me a while to like it and it grew on me.

Yeah, actually it is exactly correct. Jackson's "high end" guitars are made in the USA, and have Original Floyd Rose locking trems, as opposed to Jackson-branded, licensed locking trems.

Jackson does offer some really nice MIJ guitars, but those are NOT their high end models. And the Jackson-branded, licensed locking trems found on those guitars work quite well.

Guys at the Jackson/Charvel forum, like anywhere else, have a variety of opinions (though simple common sense would dictate that many would prefer an OFR to ANY licensed copy of one), but having owned & played several of both OFRs & licensed Jackson-branded locking trems over many years, I'm telling you the JT580LP works very well.
