What should I do about a JPM 4
I have the opportunity to purchase a JPM 4 in what looks to me to be pristine condition. It is at a local store, so I can layaway it. They are asking $1400.
I can't find to much info on these so I am not sure if this is a good price. Also, I will have to sell me
Kirk Hammet
KH-2 to pay for it. I guess thats ok since I don't use it that much. Opinions please!
Just a note to the monitors. This guitar is NOT listed on evilbay, and will NOT be if I choose to buy it. If I don't I dunno if they will put it on or not.

In 99' I had a chance to purchase a near mint P4 for $600 USD, to this day...I still kick myself in the ass for not having done so.

Dude, if this guitar was $600, it would be sitting here now. I would not hesitate at that price.

Re: What should I do about a JPM 4
Well do you like the JPM more than the KH?
Ask yourself why you want the JPM?
Do you love how it plays, or sounds?
I don't think you are "stealing" it or anything at that price, so just make sure you want it.
It is a great guitar and I doubt you would lose anything if you decide you don't like it later.

Re: What should I do about a JPM 4
If you can't talk them down, and you want THAT guitar. Pay the price. The guitar is worth what you're willing to pay for it. Not what someone tells you they think it's worth. You'll regret not owning a fine JPM alot more than you'll regret spending a couple hundred bucks. Anything else you might buy with a couple hundred bucks still wont make up for letting a JPM that you want get away.
Besides, if they have layaway, then it's no big deal. Pay what you can when you can. It'll be your before you know it.

That logic only works to a point. If it's worth $2000 to him and he pays it, then decides it's not for him and has to sell it for a $600 loss, he paid more than it was worth, or if he buys it, then finds one for $1100 later, he paid too much.

True. But.....if he wants THAT guitar, then it's a little different. I don't buy stuff to sell it. I buy it to own it. If I see something I want, I'll usually get it even if the price could be better. For me, it a matter of owning it, not buying or selling it. But if money is super tight for someone, and they just can't afford the couple hundred bucks, then I suppose it would be a different story.

Reguardless, it is possible to overpay for something you want. You may be glad to have it but that doesnt mean you didnt overpay. I know I overpaid for my
strat plus
. I didnt care because I had to have that exact one, but that still doesnt change the fact that I paid more than I should have.

I hear ya, I was watching one in Dec. '03 that didn't hit what the guy wanted, so he re-listed it with a BIN of $750. Still kickin' myself for not grabbing it. Especially with the ridiculous prices they go for now.
