Question

What's the dif. between RG2020X+2120X,apart from the Age????

Hi Guys (especially 'SOLOIST').

I'm set on getting one of the 'Double-Edge' equipped RG's with the Mahogany bodies. Am i correct in assuming that the 2120X is the newer version of the 2020X? To look at the 2120 has the newer 'EP' style bridge and I think it has the IBZ/Dimarzio pickups. When were both guitars made?

Does the Piezo sound the same on both guitars and does one trem work better than the other? Does either guitar have a reputation for being better than the other? Does anyone know the difference between the electronics on both guitars? Looks to be a 'push-button' on one and not the other and the 2120 has more knobs. What do they do?

I'd be very greatful if anyone can give me a model against model comparison or any info or advice on either. Thanks in advance for any input.

All the Best!...............JTM45!!!!!

I got one for sale, a 1620x, a LOT cheaper and does the same thing, shoot me an email at gemini8026@hotmail.com if your interested. It has the new Edge Pro trem, and is prestige quality!

Hey 'Gemini8026'!
I'm guessing you're in the U.S. right? (or maybe you're not) I'm in the U.K. so it would make it too costly. I did think about a 1620X but I'm more inclined towards the Mahogany bodied models. I've got a 1570 at the moment which I'm about to get rid of and the 1620 is basically one of those with a 'DE' trem. I would be tempted if it was in the UK and Cheap enough.
I've got my eye on a brand-new old stock 2020X that looks really nice. It's all a matter of how much I can get it for.

Let me know anyway if you read this post and thanks for your reply.

The 2120x will have a tone control for the piezo pickup, and the 2020x doesn't. That is why the 2120x has the extra knob.

The 2120X has a 2 band EQ (the tone knob) and has the ability to combine the magnetic & piezo pups simultaneously.

I think the colors may have also been slightly different (the 2120 was greener).

Re: What's the dif. between RG2020X+2120X,apart from the Age????

Thanks for the input guys.

'Mark DY', does that mean that you can't combine the piezo and the magnetics on the 2020X ?

The 2020X I've seen for sale appears to be Black(i've only seen pictures of it at the moment). Did they do them in Black at all. It's definitely not a re-finish or anything because it's a new guitar and hasn't been owned by anyone. I suppose it could be a very dark Blue too. I'll see if I can download a picture of it and then I can post it to be sure.

What's the 'push-button' for on the 2020X ? Has anyone owned or played both guitars and if so is the newer model (the 2120X) 'better' in any way than the 2020X ? Is it much of a disadvantage not having the tone-control for the Piezo pickup ?

I'm trying to establish whether if I bought this 2020X I've seen that I'd have been any better-off waiting until I find a 2120X instead ? Do the 2120Xs have an 'Edge-Pro' version of the 'Double-Edge' bridge as opposed to the 'Lo-Pro' Double-Edge on the 2020X ?

Here's some pictures of the one that I've seen for sale. It says it's a 2020X and it seems to be from what I've read about them. What years were this model made in? I don't suppose there can be too many around that are still 'new' like this one.

You don't see many of them for sale at all over here in the UK. You can get a new 2120X easily enough but they're as expensive as all new guitars in the UK so if I could get this for a reasonable price I'd be very tempted to go for it. I think it is Black and if so I prefer Black to the 'Greenish-Blue' of the 2120X's I've seen for sale anyway. I just want to be sure that it is as good a guitar as the newer version.

Re: What's the dif. between RG2020X+2120X,apart from the Age????

That appears to be the RG1620x. I don't recall any 2120's being made in black. However, the old RG620x was a sperkle black.

My guess is that if you check the headstock on this guitar, it will show a 1620x model number. I could be wrong though. Another identifying characteristic is that the 2020x and 2120x both had 3 piece necks with "no" scarf joint. The old 620x has a scarf joint and I'm not sure if the 1620x does or not.

Re: What's the dif. between RG2020X+2120X,apart from the Age????

Aren't the controls wrong for a 1620X and I thought the 1620X had a newer 'Edge-Pro' type trem? The guy is supposed to be sending me some better pictures lter today so hopefully I'll be able to get a look at the neck.

Another thing I wanted to know is does the 2020X have the 'exposed binding' type of thing going on? I may be wrong but in the first picture it looks like you can (just)see binding on the body(?). Also, I don't think any of the 1620X models had the 'offset' fretboard dots which this has.

Thanks for the input Paul.

Howdy, I want 600$ USD for the guitar with the Case... Like new shape. Shipping would likely be a pretty penny though, but lemme know if interested. It's currently on ****, but im willing to end it.

Not sure how much the 2120x's go for, but liekyl quite a bit more!
