What's you favorite j-custom vine?

Hi...

What's your favorite vine inlay? the 8270 one with wood and the abalone AND mirror leaves? or the full abalone 8470 vine inlay???

I think the 8270 vine is growing on me... a bit more complex than all abalone in my view...

And the most interesting thing: WHY?

I own a 8470 and the different shades of abalone (from silver to gold with blue and green) are absolutely amazing to watch.

The 8270 doesn't have mirror leaves, the leaves are abalone and MOP with the plastic vine stem. Also, the 8470 is not all abalone, its a mix of abalone and pearl like the 8270, just with a pearl stem. I'm not really sure which I like more, the 8470 is more blingy with the MOP vine stem, which can be a good or bad thing depending on my mood. I voted 8270 though cause I have one

The only difference is the 'stem' material, which is verging dangerously close to Gibsons' infamous 'mother of toilet seat' type inlays on the 8470 stem. It would have looked better in proper m.o.p imho. I love both though !!! An RG8470F is the next guitar I am buying too. Don't forget also the RG8470A had the wood stem and the RG8470F has the plastic m.o.p. effect stem.

I have my 8470 in front of me right now and I can tell you the vine stem is abalone!!! not mop

Uh, no. The only abalone is in some leaves, thats definitely mother of pearl

Having an rg8470 ,Most of the pics. of the inlays i've seen, just don't do them justice. They look better in hand, up close, they look real. There many different kinds/styles of mother of pearl ,heres a link to a bunch. http://www.mopsupplies.com/index.html

Yes I know, some of the leaves are real mop, some are real abalone, but the stem looks like mop effect i.e pearloid. That's why I said it would look better in real mop. Real mop has hints of different colours in it, pearloid is usually plain silver/white. It still looks lovely though ! Abalone has more variation in colour and 'grain' than mop, usually silver, yellow,blues and greens and even pink and red. As far as I am aware the RG9670, RG8670, RG8470A and RG8270 inlays are the same ? Some early models did have the mirror and abalone leaves too I believe.
