Why do our loved prestige guitars have to suffer?

So since the original edge and lo-pro ibanez has stopped putting locking studs in our bridges. it is said to cut cost, although i doubt there is a large price difference. So if they want to put non locking studs on any non-prestige gear fine. most non-prestige gear needs a pick-up upgrade anyway so might as well upgrade the studs. But from prestige ibanez guitars made in japan we should be expecting a little better. How many of us upgrade to locking studs anyway? You cannot say that it makes little difference because you cannot move a locked stud but a normal stud can wobble up to 1mm. So my main question is why ibanez cut on the quality of the studs in their prestige and j-custom models? They are called prestige models and there is a reason why so many people around the globe love them.

Beating a dead horse are we?
Also the new Prestiges with Edge Zero do have locking studs. You just have to screw the locking screw in yourself...
For all guitars still with Edge Pro, just buy from Rich :O you should do that anyways...

Instead of beating a dead horse to get your frustration out try rubbing one off first.

Re: Why do our loved prestige guitars have to suffer?

The thing with locking studs is that when you have a locking nut you screw a tiny bolt down the stud pushing against the bottom of the stud mounts. which ensures that very little movement is in the stud.

With non locking studs the studs are not locked into place and tend to wobble a bit. ive had some bad studs which can move up to 1mm. so that reduces the tuning stability and tremelo return.

it's not that i have a bad opinion of Ibanez now, it's still the best brand. Have they every really given us any good reason as to why they did it?

It has more to do with too many stupid people damaging the studs or guitar bodies by trying to forceably turn in the studs without unlocking them. But you should go look up the numerous threads already on this topic -- it's a bit of a festering wound around here.

Personally I'm more offended that Ibanez insists on using that Cosmo Black hardware finish which rubs off after 3-4 months, leaving a 900$ guitar looking like something from a second-hand store. Thanks guys, I appreciate it...

I hear ya. When I refin'd my PGMs, I replaced all the hardware with straight up black. Cosmo just wears off too quickly.
