Why do some J-customs come in Prestige cases?

My friend has a 2008 J-custom RG8420ZD, which he bought from Japan. His J-custom comes with a J-custom case.

I'm in the market for J-customs, but I don't like the color offered for 2008 (black and red). Therefore, I am looking for 2006 RG8470's. I've seen some 8470's with Prestige cases. Is this normal? I thought J-customs all come in J-custom cases?

Please enlighten me on this issue. In addition, please let me know if you want to let go of your beloved J-custom.

The case may be the same model, but usually the text on the case is different, saying "J Custom" instead of "Prestige." If your JC case says Prestige, I'd say somebody swapped the case.

My RG8270 which was bought new from within the EU came in a Prestige inscribed case. My RG8470 which was bought new from Japan came in a J Custom inscribed case. I think the JC cases are intended for their home market, any that are exported to a foreign stockist seem to be in Prestige cases. They are identical in every other way.

I saw a RG8470A a while ago with a Prestige case...

This leaves me thinking, because RG8470A is only limited to 26 copies in Japan. They should come with a J-custom case, no?

I don't think they'd swap the case because the seller is very very reputable...

Nevertheless, if I were to spend that much on a guitar, I don't want the possibility of the case being swapped, however slim the chance might be...

I never bought a new one that was in anything but a JC case. I have bought some used that were. You won'r find a definitive answer here.

Same cases different logo. I have 2 - 2008 J-Customs. My friend has a Prestige Special edition. Both cases are the same inside regardless. Mine say J-Custom, his says Prestige.

Thank you guys. I have obtained the answer from a reputable seller -- Ibanez started using "J-custom" on guitar cases circa 2007/8. This explains why the RG8470F on Ishibashi is listed under the category of "RG-Prestige."

And no, although I was tempted to buy that guitar, I've found something better...a RG8470A! (It's in my favorite color as well)

I don't find Ibanez's top to be AAAAA, but I can live with it! =)
