Why offset dots on all these guitars? - Am I the only one wh

Is Ibanez ever going to stop putting these offset dot inlays (ala JPM) on their pricier models? *I can't play any guitar with those things. *Why don't they use the killer pearl/abalone/pearl block inlays like on my MA3s? *Hell, I'd rather have no inlays at all than those stupid offset dots.

I like both inlays alot. But blocks don't look modern and although eye pleasing they would drive the price up.

Offsets are cool. Another great idea is the inlay Conklin uses. They have them offset to where they are actually on the corner of the fingerboard, posing as a side marker as well. Great design.

I like the offset dots...but also like the cleaner look of my S2020x with just the dots at the 12th fret. *That's got to be frustrating for you.

I don't stare at the dots for 2 reasons:

1. It will make you sick and dizzy
2. I'm busy playing, no time to worry about dots.

I will admit it took a while to get used to the offset dots after looking for pyramids for a while, but it is a very cool look. I always thought the vine would be the worst to get used to.

I got offset pearl blocks on my ESP, they look wicked!! I'm not a huge fan of offset dots, they're ok, but sure are a whole lot better than blocks or regular DOTS!

Ibanez with block inlays? no thanks

Paul Gilbert also chose the split block inlays for his PGM10. I too think they're attractive yet conservative inlays and almost like a non-signature version of Vai's pyramid inlays.

My first choice is no face dots at all. Classical guitarists don't need them, and what they play is infinitely more complicated than anything i'll ever play, so why do i need them? I've found that i rarely use the face of the fretboard for orientation, anyway. The big white bars on the edge of my Parker's fretboard are awesome for quick visual orientation.

My second choice is small abalone offset dots.

I just find Ibanez's huge centred plastic dots look extremely cheap. Can't stand 'em. I just prefer the clean, uncluttered look.

However, there are exceptions. If i ever buy a Les Paul, it's gotta have trapezoids. And if i ever buy a PRS, it absolutely has to have birds. On those guitars, those "signature" inlays are part of the essence of what makes them beautiful. But i don't consider dots to be a particularly noteworthy design element.

...even when they got little screw heads in them. The BSB and DBK have the WORST markers. To quote Charlie Brown, "BLEH!"
