Workmanship difference between rg2550 and rg3120?
My question is: is there a worksmanship, or craftsmanship difference between the rg3120 and the rg2550? They appear to have the same neck, so my guess is the only difference is the flame maple top and mahogany body, am I right? Or do the ibanez workers put in more effort and time into the setup of the rg3120, especially the frets and neck?

I think the differences are the woods used, in quality they should be about the same

Looking at the RG2450MZ I've just bought, it's hard to imagine a better craftsmanship.

I don't wanna cause any trouble but have you never played a usa made jackson? I haven't found a single ibanez that comes even close to that quality of instrument. The 3120 intrigues me but if it's the same neck and worksmanship of 2550's I will pass on it. I will say that I have not played a J-custom or a well set-up JEM.

I would say a 3120 is very comparable to a US Jackson, and I would still have the 3120.

I probably should have add something like, before it causes you any trouble: "From what I've seen and played so far...(this includes numerous Gibson and hand made Japanese guitars, I still have)"
Anyway until I'll put my dirty fingers on a US Jackson, I'm still thinking that the finish on the prestige RG I have is flawless.

Agreed. I own an RG3120. I've also played several USA Jackson SL1s and Randy Rhoads. The SL1 is a very nice guitar and it comes with better setup from the factory so it's more ready to go off the shelf... I m not fond of the Seymour Duncan JB though... Not a fan of the Rhoads because I don't like V's... but I'd still say the Rhoads is great.
my RG3120 is setup very well though, and I prefer the sound over the SL1...
DiMarzio Tone
Zone is more versatile.... and I really like the sound of the PAF Pro.... I also prefer the RG neck over the Jackson neck because my hands are really small and Jackson just feels too big for me.. plus, Lo-Pro Edge is better than the Original Floyd Rose that comes with Jacksons... so I'd take a 3120 over a USA Jackson (that's just my personal opinion, my friend has giant hands and although he likes the Edge/Lo-Pro bridges more, he'd take an SL1 over RGs any day)
my favorite guitar is still my MusicMan John Petrucci signature though... great feel and AMAZING tone!

I would say that the RG Prestiges are broadly comparable in terms of quality to American Jacksons.
As has been stated before there is no difference in quality between a 2550 and a 3120, only different woods are used. Both are setup at the factory equally... in my experience the Prestige factory setup is excellent... in comparason to other brands at around the same price bracket (including some American brands - no names mentioned) I regard Ibanez Prestige quality to be very good.

Re: Workmanship difference between rg2550 and rg3120?
Prestige series have nothing less in terms of quality to a USA Jackson. Jackson more likely uses better woods, even cause they make a hundredth guitars than Ibanez makes, so they can afford better woods, also they cost as twice as any
Prestige guitar
. so, except woods, the overall craftmanship and quality are pretty much the same.

I agree. In addition to my two Jems, (7vwh and 77vbk), I really like my USA DK1 Jackson. I agree with the soloist neck,,,,,I just bought a brand new SL1 early this month to compare it to my DK1. Well, the neck is not the same, and it was much thicker. A whole different feel, and of course, painted. So ,I returned it. I just wanted to see what a Soloist was like since they are so popular, but it didn't work for me. If you have smaller hands and love the
prestige necks
like I do, check out a DK1 if you look into a USA Jackson. It has a nice , slim, unfinished neck that compares favorably to a Prestige neck. In fact, my Jems and my DK1 are the nicest necks I've ever played, and I've owned a lot of guitars.

Re: Workmanship difference between rg2550 and rg3120?
I don't have a 3120 (wish I did though), but I do have a Prestige S1220WNF. It has a VERY thin neck with a bubinga stripe, and I love it. I also have a Jackson Soloist SL1 and a Dinky XL. The Soloist is USA-made. The neck is a bit thicker than what I like. I like the Original Floyd Rose, but I think I like the Lo Pro Edge better. I'm thinking about selling the SL1 and saving up some money for a J Custom with an Edge Zero. The
Jackson Dinky
XL is a Japanese guitar. The neck is very flat and I really like it a lot....but it is ever-so-slightly thicker than the
Ibanez neck
. The Dinky XL has a Schaller Floyd Rose, and I really like that bridge too.

Re: Workmanship difference between rg2550 and rg3120?
What is the difference between prestige necks on the 2550's or 3120's that have black lines on the back of them, compared to one's that do not have those lines?

Re: Workmanship difference between rg2550 and rg3120?
There are 2 pieces of walnut between the 3 pieces of Maple on the 5 pieces Prestiges necks.
This is meant to make them more reliable.

I have a couple of J-Custom's that will pretty much change your mind on that one. These things are amazing!!!

BTW, if you don't find any Ibanez that come close to what you like... Why looking for an
i
banez?
I mean.. I won't look for any US Jackson or any US Charvel, when all I want/need is just a prestige RG. They are what they are aren't they?
Nevermind.
