Wow, what was Petrucci thinking?

I just got my first look at JPM 90th. So much nicer looking than his EBMM signature. No idea what it sounds like but it looks alot cooler. I know petrucci was mad at Ibanez for something so he left, but couldn't he have designed another cool sig model like the 90th? I like the EB, but visually its nothing compared to the Ibanez IMO. What exactly was it that made him leave? I heard it was something about his seven string model not being sold in stores.

I heard one of the reasons was that Ibanez wouldn't go beyond making an upscale RG model, which is basically what his models were -- upscale RG's.

Apparently, they pretty much wanted to keep the design of his guitar as simple as possible without having to redesign a whole new model and he wanted more options.

I personally prefer the Ibanez guitars.

we've had this dicussion, nothing "made him leave" his contract expired and chose a different company. that and he wanted to have a 7 string model from ibanez to the public, however they denied and he switched

How much do aniversary JPM's go for? I don't like it as much without the flame.

I've discussed it at length with him and he never, ever once mentioned anything about wanting a 7 string production model from Ibanez. I'm not saying he didn't because I don't know about that, but it clearly wasn't a major part of his reasoning based on what he told me. EB being such an amazing company to work with is the reason he switched - not being mad at Ibanez. He was never, ever mad at Ibanez and that I know for a fact. But in the internet rumor mills it makes for more interesting stories to have that sort of drama. The fact that EB looks after their artists so well that the artists don't even sign contracts tells you a lot about the company/artist relationship. At the end of his Ibanez contract, EB was simply too good of a company to turn down. The timing was right for him to make the change and he went for it. EB guitars are not for everybody, that's for sure. But his guitars are very personalized and he had total control over their design with the exception of the headstock. I'm primarily an Ibanez player, but having gotten to know EB over the past 5 years, I've been extremely impressed. I'm a small business owner so much of the way EB handles itself has been of particular interest to me. They are one of the most impressive companies I have ever seen up close. I've never seen employees so excited about working somewhere, LOL. But I really support a company that places such emphasis on customer satisfaction and service as well as product quality. Touring the factory and talking to the employees was eye opening.

I have a JPM90 and I love it. But it only comes in second place to my RGART1.

I think they are still floating around the $1600 to $2500 range depending on condition.

Yeah, so he wanted more options on his guitars. It's only logical, considering he has the piezos. He can basically get any tone he wants without having to switch guitars.

It's quite annoying that Ibanez wouldn't do something different for Petrucci but recently gave Justin Hawkins the offer of a completely new signature model/shape!
Apparently he didn't sign on the dotted line because he didn't want to have to play Ibanez guitars exclusively but they still made him that horrid 'Justin' graphic RG.

Very sad.

In Ibanez's defence the Dorkness probably sold more copies of their first album than DT did.
