2 Serial numbers?

I've got a JS1000 with 2 serial numbers..
There is a serial # on the back of the headstock & also on the neck plate.

F99 on the headstock, the neck plate # begins with 00.

Is this normal? I figure it's either a 99 or a 2000 model, depending on which # you go with.
Thanks.

You only have 1 serial #, it's on the back of the head and it's a 99'. Up until they started putting the #'s on the head the neck plate # would be considered the JS serial #, but once they put the F**** series #'s on the head they are the *official* serial #'s. The neck plate #'s are consecutive so that # represents tyhe XXXXth JS made in Japan in totality (does not apply to any Korean models)

Rich,

You got the experience -- can you tell how to date a JS from the J-plate serial number?
