A question on economics and the Satriani guitar
Basically for my 18th, I've been given around £800 and I thought "dammit! i'm gonna have to get a chrome boy!!!) Obviously I can't afford a real one.
so!!
should I buy a newer JS100 with the flashy new trem and chrome that? (i reckon a new one in the uk to be about £500) or get a second hand JS900 or even a JS1 to chrome...
I have a feeling option 2 is probably the better one, any ideas tho peeps?

I'd say option 2, but do you really want a chromeboy? It might be quite a hassle. You could get a shiny JS1000 for that money.

I've got a JS1000BTB, which is beautiful, dont get me wrong...
But getting a
chrome boy
, for me, is the dream.
Just like playing a white strat if you're a hendrix fan and a
les paul
if you're a Page fan etc.
just that a chrome boy is more difficult to get a hold of

Who were you planning on using to "chrome" this guitar?

Well you obviously have to carry out the full mariginal cost vs. utility analysis of having the JS900 as opposed to the upgraded JS100...
You said it was an economics question

Save for a real one. A mock-up from a JS100 might disappoint. Compared with your BTB it would be a big let down playability-wise.

IF your going to use it as a player, I would sugguest going with your second option, that is, ifyou can find a JS1 cheep enough that chroming will fit into your budget.

Couldn't say it much better. I mean, if its not the real thing, what's the point really? While the js100 is the best cheap guitar, you have a sweet js1000 already so the only practical use for a 100 would be if you need a cheap guitar to carry around for practice that you dont want to worry if it gets stolen!

If you already have a BTB why do you want another JS? I got a nice Taylor for my 18th, and it's got a lot more use than another electric would have done (i also have a BTB)
(Apart from the plain coolness of a chrome guitar, of course .... but surely the novelty wears off after a while?)

no not really...
would the novelty ware off for an owner of a white strat player who loves Hendrix... same as for a sunburst lespaul for a Page fan...
A chrome JS would be my ideal guitar... I know I love the JS more than any other guitar... so why not have one in the finish that is my personal favorite ??
eventually I'd like to have half a dozen of em to gig with... that would rock
well... in different colours of course

Many years on, the novelty of my Jem 10 has not worn off.
Also: it whispers my name at night.
And tells me to hurt people.

I am SO out of touch with this way of thinking. I never had a guitar like that of my heroes. I had a Kramer, but not a baretta style, and NEVER that ugly frankenstrat paintjob. Never had a Rhoads or Petrucci, either.
