Hi there, no first hand info (I never owned a 900), but this may help a bit.
afaik, the only differences between the 900 and the 1000
are the standard (but still 'prestige') neck on the 900 and
the missing push-pull coil tap and
high pass filter pots..
which could be added for ca. 15$ each (cost of a new push
pull pot).
The 'metallic black' description fits the bp finish pretty well,
I'd describe it as sparkle black.. You can have a look at

for some nice impressions of the BP finish.
I remember someone mentioning here on the forum that the
compund radius neck on the 1000 doesn't make a huge difference.
I personally never played one of those necks, so I can't comment
on that. But I have a JS1 with the
standard neck and it's my
favourite.
I'd definately get one. And yes, they're top notch guitars.
How much are you planning to spend?
