Anyone know how to check serial number on js10th?

Theres a guy selling a js10th chromeboy that doesnt have the engraving on the back of the guitar (though has the js10th on the headstock) and only gives a certificate number saying that it was an first run batch pre-production..Hoax?

I sold a repro JS10th a couple of years ago......... a JS1000 that had been tarted up....... done by a guy in the States

Guy says its a pre-production or something from joe's tech? Backplate has no cut out as well like the js10ths do..
tempting but also quite suspect

As a JS10th owner, what I can say is
1. The case is not original. The original case should look like the one below.

No one can tell if that one is a pre-production or not, which I have not heard before.

The verdict is I would not buy that guitar if I were you.

There's someone who can YJM, we'll see if he shows up in here soon. I stumbled upon the auction yesterday and I was concerned about it too but it looks like it could be a chromeboy whose plate has been replaced.

yeah jb4674 was hoping someone here might be able to check the number of the guitar.
It could be dodgey or it could just have had the backplates replaced, only the owner knows..might ask him actually

I just email the guy and said:

"Hello,

Could you send me some closeup higher resolution pictures of the guitar, especially the back of the headstock, the neck plate, and could you also remove the cover plates for the trem and electronic cavities?

To my knowledge, all JS10ths were numbered and engraved on the electronics plate. The trem plate also had precut holes on it as well.

What happened to the case, the strap, the cable and the rest of the stuff the guitar came with? That case is not the original case the guitar came with.

It's too bad I can't buy that thing though.... My PRM will have to suffice until I can find a JS10th in top shape.

I did all the questioning the other night, he still won't answer the biggie, WHO he bought it from [specifically]. Claims to be bought from Joe's tech but later says he bought it in Arizona. Guess what, Joe's techs don't live in Arizona.

By neck serial number there is no way it's early, it's VERY late. If it was early it would have a 97 neck, and most guitars up into the 200 range have 97 necks [at least from the quick search I did]. One in the 400 range had an earlier 98 serial number.

It's either an employee parts guitar or it's a stolen guitar. Nothing else makes sense.
