Crystal Tone - He actually played it live.

So during Joe’s set at G3 he managed to stand up under the weight of the Crystal Planet monster for a couple songs... and wow! What a distinct difference in tone. As far as I know he plugged into the exact same rig, but the tone while using the Crystal was noticeably thicker and rounder.

I really liked it a lot more than his tone the rest of the night. He seemed to have just a bit of trouble with a few harmonics, but I thought it was an improvement on his usual sound.

Just making an observation. Anyone else notice it? The dense body material seems like a positive thing to me.

I concur with you Bob. *It was noticeably different. *I asked Joe about it and he stated that the tone is thicker. *He also stated that after a while it gets difficult to play, in regards to his left hand (on the neck). *I assume that he is counter acting the weight of the body with his left hand while playing. *It sounds like it would hurt after a while. *
Out,
Gregory * * *
PS. *He also stated that the CP is going through the same rig and Chrome Boy.

Thanks for the post! Unfortunately I'm not going to G3, so I'm sorry I won't see it.

What songs did he use the CP for?

Rich, I believed you about the CP having killer tone, but I was trying to ignore it, because I like being married!

Never played one. Is it heavier than a Les Paul? Joe is very small. It didn’t LOOK like he was having trouble.

I, for one, don't notice the weight once it's on my shoulder. I do notice it when picking it up though.

The CP is definitely a beefy axe-I check on mine constantly to see if it's bent the hanger I've got it one! *LOL *Luckily, they're the heavy-duty reinforced ones, so no mishaps yet. *I took mine to a band rehearsal the other day, and, thought it sounded incredible-it does get a bit heavy after a few hours. *Actually...it gets REALLY heavy! *Definitely worthwhile though...KILLER tone! *I do like it better than my JS10th.

I was fortunate enough to be able to pick up Joe's CP and I can understand why he might not want to play a whole set with it. It was *definitely* heavier than a basswood JS1000. Definitely in the Les Paul weight class.

Too heavy for me, but it does look VERY cool, especially the clear pickup bobbins.
