Dirty Volume Pot

A big round of applause for Algiman for helping me out with my previous problem (covered in my last thread).

There now seems to a noise that occurs when I adjust my volume (on my guitar). It sounds like a loose connection or something of the ilk (its not very loud , its a subtle sizzle).

How would I go about fixing that?

Re: Dirty Volume Pot

It is also a lubricant, and is too thick for fine electronics like this. It will work, but electronic contact cleaner would be better.

...and i hear it keeps the strings and hardware like new!

you can fix anything in the world with duct tape and wd40:
If it moves but it shouldn't - use duct tape.
If it doesn't move but it should - use WD40

Re: Dirty Volume Pot

I had a similar problem with my js1000btb - including the tone pot. I had both volume and tone pots changed under warranty, but this didn't solve the problem. Turns out that it's a static issue - when touching the strings, there's no crackle when pots tweaked. If not touching the strings, there's a crackle. No way round it I was told, but it's not a big problem (at least for me).

Re: Dirty Volume Pot

The problem with WD-40 is that dirt sticks to it. This is why you have to wipe the excess off, when you spray it on anything. If you don't, the problem will only come back worse than before.

But, if Paul Gilbert uses it, then I guess he would know more than I would.

Paul Gilbert also plays drums. Use radio shack tuner cleaner.
