EVH D-Tuna on JS1000?

Does anyone have any comments on installing Eddie's D-Tuna on a JS1000? Is anyone currently using a D-Tuna on a JS1000? Any installation problems?

Any comments would be welcome. (I did a site search, and nothing came up under "D-Tuna".) Thanks.

The question was asked before. The answer was basically that the D-tuna won't fit on a Lo-Pro Edge, which is stock on a JS1000. It may fit on an original Edge trem, but you'll have to block it so that it only drops pitch in order for the D-tuna to work.

THAT is the real holdup here... For the D-tuna to work, the bridge can't be in free float, and has to be set for down-only motion. If you'll notice, the eVH bodies aren't routed to allow the bridge to be pulled up...

One thing you can do, is, if you'll be blocking the bridge anyway, you can tune the guitar to pitch with the fine-tuner tightened all the way down on the E string. Then, to tune to d, simply back it out all the way. Never tried this, but i hear it offers a full step range when maxed out each direction...

a hipshot tremsetter will give that locked down feel *tightened all the way ONLY*, but you would still have to route as the thing would stick out a long way. I THINK this would work but whatever you did would be almost completely permanent and render your whammy bar almost useless as well as requiring a refinsih of the guitar

Thanks Sniperfrommars1--good points. Suffice to say, I won't be installing a D-Tuna on my JS1000's. That's what I like about this forum--you can learn from others without making too many mistakes yourself.

switch the lopro for an edge, then find something for a tremblock. Once you do that there won't be any problem installing a D Tuna! I just wish it was possible on a JS2000

Still depending on how low his trem sets hell probably have to route to get it to sit right anyways. And he still wants to be able to use the trem

A D-tuna isn't really necessary on the JS2000. I've had no problem at all dropping tunning on mine on the fly. Just leave the locking nut pad on the low strings loose. I've had no issues at all with stability, etc.

Its not possible on the 2000 anyways, and besides you wouldnt have to unlock the nut since the trem doesnt float you should have plenty of headroom with the fine tuners. Is there a difference in the fine tuning range between the edge and lo pro???

Nope. No difference at all in fine-tuner range between the Edge & LoPro. But, I find it a lot easier to just leave the nut unlocked and use the machine head. I've fuond it to be a bit faster than using the fine tuner, although that certainly is an option (and one that I experimented with as well). But...opinions may vary

I just dont like using a guitar with a locking nut without actually taking adavantage of the tuning stability of the guitar

I strech my strings pretty well, so the locking nut is more or less pointless. I've had my JS2000 for 4 gigs so far, and it's not gone out of tune once (with the nut pads removed).

I stretch my strings alot as well . But the thing is definitely going to be alot more stable in tuning locked down than without. Hell Ive got a 520 that just defys the laws of physics that guitar NEVER goes out of tune and I constantly use the whammy bar

I'm just uncoordinated, and don't want to waste time on stage tuning back and forth between standard and drop D. It's just a distraction I don't care for thats why I'd want a D Tuna on a JS2000
