Finally got a 6
Hi all,
I've finally got my hands on the
JS6
I've wanted for too many years and I'm absolutely thrilled with it - they really are nigh on impossible to find over here, so couldn't wait to go pick it up from the depot when word came that it had arrived!
The pics don't really do it justice, but other than a tiny mark that could have been left by a fingernail there's not a ding on it, front or back. The 700 I have is nice (Japanese, used to have a Korean one as well, but the less said about them the better), but after a day of playing there's just no comparison.
Anyway, just spreading the joy! Happy days......

Nice find - like you say, they're not easy to find, let alone in that condition.

Nice pair, you got there. Lolz.
Can you elaborate on the differences between playing the JS6 and
JS700
? What is it about the 6 that is better?

Re: Finally got a 6
I too have both. Hard to describe in terms of feel on the body. The JS6 feels a lot better to me though. Maybe it's the finish. I definitely prefer the feel of the Gotoh bridge over the tune-o-matic style that's on the JS700.
My JS700 is Korean, and it's not that it's put together really poorly, but I can just tell that the JS6 is better quality in terms of the hardware and neck. I could probably get a good setup on the JS700 and it would be better.
Pickups - I guess it's what you like, but I really didn't like the P-90s in the JS700. Really quiet, low output, thin, lots of hum. I could tolerate it a lot better in the middle position. Just not the tone I normally want. I wound up putting Dimarzio soapbar sized humbuckers on my JS700 (bridge is a Super Distortion) and now the tone is a lot better. I admittedly didn't give the P-90s a fair shake, but when I want a thinner tone, I play my Fender Tele. JS700 doesn't have the push-pull pots for filter and coil splitting either. I really like that feature on the JS6.
All that said, I've been considering selling the JS700, because it just doesn't get played much now that I have the JS6. If I were more than just a hobby player around the house, I could see that I might want to keep the JS700 for playing out so my JS6 didn't get banged up.
All just my opinion. I'm curious to hear Jetbear's opinion too.

Probably because they came with single coils
:
Dont know why they didnt put the filter on though, maybe thats only on the Japanese ones. It wouldnt be too hard to install one though, and the coil split now that you have humbuckers in it.

Good point phil. Duh. I had considered doing a PRS style pickup selector when I rewired, but wound up just doing it simple.

Re: Finally got a 6
I like simple. I used to always have a push/pull for coil splits, but since I got my JPM, I think I'm just going to wire all the HH guitars I get from now on with the Split 3 (Petrucci wiring) I really only use the split in the middle position anyway, very rarely just split neck or bridge.
