Re: Fret Buzz woes =(

Yeah, a nut shim should only affect open strings, as Rich said.

Re: Fret Buzz woes =(

Was it brand new? May be worth just sending it back, you shouldnt have to go through all this for a new guitar. If a regular set up cant fix it i.e. adjusting bridge and springs etc then I'd put this under faulty catagory. Or if they wont replace it then to get them to cover fixing costs.

A few month ago one of the lads on here sent back a JS1200 for a discoloured dot on the 12th fret, i'd say this is much more worse and he had no problems taking it back and getting swapped.

I think its worth doing, for a brand new guitar at that standard you shouldnt have to go through all that. I'd contact the place you bought it from to see what your options are.

good luck! keep us posted with the news

Really? I've got several "discolored' inlays, and it's part of what I love about it. Gives it character. That's one of the features I show off.

Sorry for your luck, wandereruk05. I hope you get it settled pretty quick.

wont be taking her out unless playing - no guitar stands nada.

i'm so picky i might even have to get it refinished =/

Sorry, I think I caused the confusion over nut shims, I guess I was over tired, what I was thinking was that I had a guitar where the open strings would buzz on the first few frets. That was fixed by raising the nut.
If slackening the truss doesn't fix the problem after a suitable settling time then perhaps the frets are high, It's worth checking the neck relief by fretting at the first and last fret and checking there's a small gap near the middle, you might spot if there's a high fret as well. Unless your dealer is good they may just say you're being picky!
