guitar used on The Mighty Turtle Head???
I wonder if Joe used a strat in the
neck position
or is he using his JS1000 in the neck position with the
coil tap engauged??? VERY strat sounding to me..
He also states he uses a
Peavey Classic
50 quite
often in the studio. A strat and a classic 50 mabye??

It could be possible, Joe does own a few Strats.

Re: guitar used on The Mighty Turtle Head???
yea it's very possible he was using Strat's in the studio. Joe has a great mentality of "let's use the right gear for the right sound" so if he wants a
Strat sound
he'll just use a Strat and get it over with, likewise if he wants a
Les Paul
sound he'll just use a Les Paul.
Live he might've used his JS1000 with the coil tap engaged or he might've used his older JS series guitars that had a S-S-H pickup setup.

Wish I could cite my source, but I recall reading recently reading an online Q and A with Joe where he said he used his favorite vintage Esquire for Turtle Head and All Alone.
Whatever it is, I love that tone.

Well, cite the source man, it's not like you're in court or something...

Sorry, not quite what I meant -- I can't
remember
exactly where I read it. Wish I could. Not trying to be secretive; just forgetful.

Re: guitar used on The Mighty Turtle Head???
I seem to recall reading that indeed he used a guitar that was not a JS ibanez, and that he used
heavy gauge strings
with high action. This made it a bit of a struggle to play which added to the vibe of All Alone more bluesy.
Wish I could cite my source.

I remember seeing a photo of him with a hardtail Ibanez Tele copy during that era. That tone sure sounds "Tele" to me.

I spoke with Jeff Campitelli after a HOB Sunset show years ago, and he said that Ibanez made two Tele's for Joe, and that Joe taught him [Jeff] how to play rhythm for the tour. [Jonathan Mover was still drumming for Joe, live, at that time. The last tour for Jonathan, IIRC.]
Also said Joe gave him the Tele. Don't recall if it was the same conversation or another, years later. [I was fortunate to get after show passes for a couple of shows.]
Would love to see pics of the Ibanez Tele's, to refresh my memories.
