Has Satch ever used the JS700 on a recording?

Just wondering. I do that a lot when I'm here at work listening to Satch. I know he used the JS6 for The Extremist. And I've seen ads with him holding the 700. Just wanna know if he ever used it to record.

For his self-titled album? Also on a video of him recording that album where he writes a song on it.

yeah I also could've sworn he used a 700 for his self titled album. Could be a JS6 though... not sure... anyone here know for sure?

Thanks for the responses. I just remembered I have some old guitar magazines from that period, I need to dig them out and re-read them.

According to the Ibanez catalog from 1997, It was the JS 700 that he used for his self-titled album.

He has a JS700 at home that he uses for slide playing, maybe he used it for 'Champagne?' on Engines of Creation?

Re: Has Satch ever used the JS700 on a recording?

That could be because if you listen to the tones of that JS 700 on his self-titled
album, it kind of matches the tones comin' from "Champagne?".
The ending of that song has a great guitar melody solo!

One things for sure, he's never played mine. It started out as just the body so god knows where its been and who's played it(and where the rest of it is).

if you watch Reel Satriani, all the songs tracked on video (3 of 'em, and the cool#9 jam at the end) were all Chrome Boy.

Is that the video of the [recording] of the self-titled album?
Its when they all get together in the studio to record and it has videos.
I think its called "Reel Satriani", Im not sure.....
He picks up the 700 to write the song "IF" (off self-titled album) through a practice amp.

Oh yeah, its beautiful. Just upgraded it with some Gotoh tuners and roller string trees (something I should have done when I first put it together).

Just because he's playing a certain guitar in the video and recording, doesn't mean it was the take they used on the cd. He could have done 20 more takes after that video was shot with 20 different guitars and used one of those takes.

Unless they say something on the video, I haven't watched it since I got it (my VCR died shortly after getting the video and haven't had a VCR to watch it on since).

I'm sure the JS700 made it onto a few tracks on the self-titled cd, maybe as a layered guitar part or a rhythm track.

I've only seen the video 2 or 3 times. It's vague to me but
I remember Satch has hair and then later he's bald.
BTW, I think Satch would nail a track less than 20 takes-LOL
I do like your guitar. It's nice and simple.

heh, it wasn't meant to be an attack on the 700 - i'd love one of those .. i'm just sayin' what it's like on video - satch is admittedly very attached to particular guitars.

Re: Has Satch ever used the JS700 on a recording?

The number of takes depends on the other guitarists performances. You can see it on the video...

Satch had hair in 1995(self-titled album was recorded and released that year and reel satriani is from that period) and started shaving his head in 1996. At the end of the video there's an interview with joe recorded in 1996.
