HELP!! js 1000 brand new bought..but then i held a jem!!

I just bought a brand new js 1000bp from guitar center...i have had 2 js 100's and love the js feel....so finally i bought the 1000..i have played it and love it..something i have wanted for a long time....BUT i am into Vai a lot...and his tone and the way the evo's scream and get the overtones..just couldn't afford a jem....then i went back to guitarcenter a few days later with a friend who wants a jem and i played it...big mistake...i'm torn now..... and THEN.. i saw one on this list for about 1200 bucks used.(thats close to the js with a case and tax).are they all around this price..or close?.....i mean i never realized that i could get a jem for that price....and now i don't know what to do....i have 30 days to return the js .i'm not sure what to do...i play mostly southern rock, blues and 80's vai and satch like stuff.....just not sure if the jem would be as versatile as the js...without the coil tap and all...i'm torn...should i return the js and get a used jem??

do you still have the two js100's? you could sell those to help in getting the jem. then you get the js1000 and the jem, a much better senario

If you surf around you'll find numerous threads here of many agonizing over the same decision. Bottom line is they're totally different animals. You really have to judge how you'll be using it and decide which one fits your needs best. They both do most everything very well so it's a tough choice. You've got 30 days to figure it out

Does any of the Jems have the coil tap?? I thought they had it.

I have never played a Jem in my life, I wonder what i would say if i had a Jem10th in my hands. I'm almost scared to try one

I would sell your Js100's and get a Jem. I'm sure that after you played your Js1000, the Js100's don't feel or sound as good.

If it were me, I'd work to have both the Js1000, and the Jem. Ditch the Js100's!

Some that go from a 100 to a 1000 don't like the necks on the 1000. They are different and while the 100 feels like an old shoe to them they don't take the time to adjust to the difference of the 1000

All JEMs split the humbuckers in the 2 and 4 positions.

dude, ebay is the place to look for used Jems. That would be the first place i'd look. You can sell your Js1000 on ebay as well

JS or Jem

I don't envy your dilemma. My 2 cents:

If you can return the JS at no loss... do it. No loss, and you can always buy one again, like you just did. No harm, no foul. You don't lose out. You just will go a little while without a guitar while you look for a JEM to try out.

Get a JEM used, see if your fantasy lives up to reality. If so, you win. If not, just resell it here or on eBay... then buy a new or used JS1000. You end up winning, either way.

Good luck,

Edwood

Keep the JS, save for the Jem. That's what I'm doing.
