Help with spending money!

Nah not what you thought it would be!

Im about to come into some money (around £2000 or $3000 at a rough guess) and i was wonderign whether to buy a JS1000 and get a new amp as well or maybe get a JEM7V. I haven played either yet but if i get the jem it will be running through a 160 watt Fender solid state but if i get the JS i could get an amp that costs around 700-800 quid.

Which would be the more preferable combination?

The best thing to do is play them both and figure out which guitar is right for you. Being able to buy a new set up, i.e. guitar and amp is great but definitely do not settle, don't base your decision on price, I've done that and learned my lesson, I ended up spending more $$$ to get the "sound or feel" that I wanted.

I personally like the body on my JS series, it's thin, rounded and very comfortable. But then again, I love the neck on my JEM.

Test drive then decide.

You can have even more options if you buy second hand.

To be honest you can grab a quality 7V for £800 second hand over here and that leaves you with £1200 for the amp (or £1000 if you have to pay top whack for a mint 7V)

And again, you can repeat all the above with the JS1000

Best to check 'em out and see which one you like the feel of more.

Steve, where would you go for your second hand gear at those prices? I know Guitarist occaisionally has some stuff in the reader's ads, but usually that stuff is long gone by the time the mag hits the shops.
Are there any decent shops that regularly have good stuff ie Jems etc
Did you see the ad for the BFP last month? £800 seemed reasonable, but I'm a bit short at the mo.

Guy,
I usually use loot.com
The ads tell you how old the ad is and most serious sellers have email addresses so you can contact them that way for pics etc...
I find the same problem you do with the guitar mags.

Buying second hand is a bit of a task over here, the shops usually way overcharge, so it's always best to check the classifieds as there isn't much around that interests the likes of us.

Cheers
Steve

Since the JS and the Jem are two completely different styles of guitars I would have to agree with chromeboy. You really do need to handle each one and figure out which you are more comfortable with. After all it is alot of money even if your "comming into it".

Look at the basic's even 21 frets vs 24 that was a big posted topic here....not to mention the body shapes conform to you differently when holding each one...

Ripl3y is right to say that loot.com has some great stuff at great prices second hand.Ibanez on Loot.com Also check out some of the larger UK shops, they often get fun stuff coming in on trade in.

If you want to look into getting them at the same store and pay cash, then you may get quite a discount on that much business.

If you don't want to pay new UK prices but still want a new guitar... I'm gonna point you up to the swirly logo in the corner and tell you to click on this linkIbanez Rules!!.

In truth you need to go somewhere where you can try both these guitars and A/B them, somewhere like Machinehead in Hitchin if you're down south in England, or maybe Sounds Great in Manchester if you're further North, before you can truly decide which one is right for you.

If you want more help/directions on where to go etc, drop any of the UK guys here a note and we'll all be glad to help out
