Look under richs website under used in the satriani section. It explains the difference between the Js1 and the new line.

Re: how to recognize a JS1????

I believe one of the biggest traits of a JS1 is the headstock logo, as it's the old school black headstock with the white logo. Other features include the locking nut having the straight-through mounting bolts, Edge trem, and locking studs.

Re: how to recognize a JS1????

It's either a JS1 or a very early 1000, the cavity has been toyed with and then the Schaller spring claw adjuster added.

Re: how to recognize a JS1????

Too much to the US [for a dealer], plus the risk of an international deal and the terrible exchange rates. If it's clean it's not bad if you're already paying with E. See the clean JS1BK that sold for $3k in the UK [although, that was too much, but as long as the buyer is happy [and he was] then no harm, no foul].
