Ibanez JS1000 BTB (pics and new Edge Pro trem!)

Hey guys,

I just got my new Ibanez JS1000 BTB guitar and it's absolutely fantastic! This is the 2003 model with the new updates and the Edge Pro trem. I've put up some pictures of the guitar and the new trem system at my site below...

http://www.exhardware.com/ibanez/

The finish is very difficult to photograph nicely and it looks much much better in person. The cosmo black hardware such as the bridge is also very photo unfriendly so I've attached a shot of the new 2003 catalog as well showing the guitar properly

The new trem seems to work very very well and is one of the lowest profile trems I have ever used. Stable, smooth and responsive - the guitar was still in tune after extensive trem use. Also the new bridge is able to accept strings with the ball ends on, basically the locking mechanism at the bridge is modified to accomodate either a bare string or a normal ball end string.

Ibanez has also modified the locking nut so that it screws in from the top - no more screw holes at the bottom of the neck (around the volute area, but no volute on the JS1000).

All in all, a fantastic guitar

Hi Salem, thanks! She looks and plays great I am very happy with it Is the BTB finish available in the UK like it is here in Asia? I remember Rich saying that only the BPs are left for the US market

BTB

Yes the BTB's are a lovely guitar.

I tried to post a pic of my BTB a while back (used to be SonicBlue- no space) but couldn't get it to work for some reason. I do suck with computers though

It's interesting how the 'burnt' stains on the finish vary from guitar to guitar. The 'burnt' marks on my model are alot more subtle.

let me know if you need help with webspace, i can upload them on my server for you.

i like how the burn marks on the BTBs vary from guitar to guitar just like the DNAs, I guess that's what makes each and every one unique to the owner!

i also noticed that both the BTBs the distributor brought in this year were both noticably darker in the burn spots than the 2002 models (mine included)

Thanks EXCrossslink,

I have a close-up photo of my BTB on the yahoo photos site. If I knew how to post my pics on here I would. In fact the reason I left jemsite a while back was from the frustration of not knowing how to post a pic on this site ! As I said, I suck at computers.

Your guitar looks very similar to the one Joe is holding in the Ibanez catalogue btw

Looks great!
Hmm, gotta go and try one myself.. curious about the new Edge Pro. Not having to cut the ball ends is definately an improvement. Got a '97 JS1000TB myself btw

A quick off-topic q about cutting off ball ends: why is it a fuss? When loading, if you feed the string in through the tuner and nut first, then into the trem, you cut off the ball end when snipping the excess string at the headstock anyway.

well it's not really a fuss, people have been cutting the ball ends off for years but it's just nice to see the option available. you could still string the guitar any way you want but if you need to restring a few guitars, it's the little things like these that go a long way

One situation that came to mind is when you're on stage and break a string you can change the string faster (without cutting any string at all). I'm always looking for my tools in such a situation, so not needing any would be nice (now we need to get to rid of the allen keys as well).
