im now "officialy" a JS'r - and i feel so special

yup, bought a JS1000WH from iain, it kicks ass. however i need to have the action set up lower, it is too high. my teacher knows this guy thats been setting up floyd's professionally for like 30 years, he's retired now. i MIGHT be able to get him to work on it for me, but if all else fails should i just send it to Rich and have him do it for me? thanx

later,

* JR

hey, isnt it kinda funny how guitars are about the only thing that wouldnt wanna be getting "high action"?

i know i know i know, i shoulda asked about it before he shiped it. i would payed for it and all that but i guess i gotta do what i gotta do right? i cant be playing a guitar with high action.

i mean, i am suppost to be laying down some tracks for a cd im free lancing on and i cant cuz my guitar isnt up to par. dont get me wrong, its not like iain sold me a bad guitar, its just the action isnt as good as i would like it to be.

Peferct example of why you should learn everything you need to know about setting it up yourself. The TECH section here will walk you through it, yes, even though it's a JS and not a Jem :biggrin:

HAHAHAHAHA! i didnt think that would be so easy... i just tightned up the nuts on the side's of the trem that raise and lower it... and its set up SWEET ... i set up the spring bracket thing too so its looser on the high side, allowing for better trem range on that side... right? and the nut screwes were a little loose too, not to lock the nut, but to hold the nut to the neck.

Rich: i didnt see anything about setting up action in the tech section, so i just decied to mess with it. did i screw my selfe over by doing the thing with the trem????? :S

There is no *loose on one side*, the springs pressure is asserted evenly on the strings. I like to keep the claw with the springs all at equal length.

i see, i guess i was just thinking prematurely. where can you get those things that *used* to be made that make the trem work more evenly. i saw somethin about them once, but i forget where and dont really wanna go looking. and are they any good? harmfull to the guitar in any way?

Congrats on the JS! *
Remember to read the Tech Section here EVERYDAY for 1.5 years. *Memorize it. :-) *Rich recites nut shim thicknesses in his sleep. *It's a sickness. LOL

The "trem work more evenly" thing is called a Tremsetter. *It's available from Hipshot Products.com, and several retailers.

My old RG550 had one on it when I bought it (pre-owned). *It was the second thing I yanked, after the strings. *Your preference may vary.

hahaha, well im satasfied with the setup. i sure its nothing compared to Rich's or anyone else's work around here but its good enough for me now. ill be sure to read up on the tech section more often. i think ill avoid the tremsetter. just wanted to look into them cuz its a peve of mine not having much controll on the be and e strings. now i just gotta work on posting a hell of a lot (haha) so i wont be a "new commer" anymore
