i'm over it...

As usual, any decent new model in the Jem or JS lineup, ends up an overpriced limited edition. I've waited since FIABD for a 'black dog' replica, and they're only making 88 at $8k a piece?

Why cant us 'bread and butter' customers ever get any joy from Ibanez?!

Next guitar... a Washburn N4, signature model that doesnt require you to sell your first-born.

Re: i'm over it...

You can scribble on an N4, too. The only reason people want it is because it is a special limited edition guitar. Look how no one is really excited about that "affordable" version of the SWTA guitar. If they mass produced a black dog model based on the JS100 for $1200 would you buy it?

Re: i'm over it...

To be honest I'm pretty pissed off that I can't walk into a shop and buy one of these RG770DX's because I've wanted one since I was 11/12 years old (there was a local guy who had one in blue, he was like the local star player at the time and I wanted is damn guitar too!)

Yeah I get that they want these guitars to sell out, but for christ's sake, give the guitars a chance to actually get bought rather than pre-ordered. They should release about 300-500 of each colour worldwide, period.

The problem with the "affordable" SWTA guitar is NOT that it isn't the super-limited edition, but that it is a JS100. If Ibanez built the cost-reduced version of SWTA or FIABD on a JS1000 and priced it at say 1800-2000 (instead of a JS100 priced at 1200), there would be plenty of interest in it.

A Blackdog tribute with a list price $400 higher than a JS1200?!

Re: i'm over it...

If Ibanez did that it could hurt the selling price and market for the limited edition one. Its the same thing Gibson does, you can get an Epiphone Zakk Wylde or a Custom Shop Zakk Wylde. If they made one on a prodution LP, they wouldnt move as many of the CS version, while probably not really moving any less of the Epis.

Re: i'm over it...

This, IMO, is the perfect example of player guitar vs collector's item. Want a player BD replica? Buy a JS1000 or a JS100 and a set of metallic sharpies. The SWTA? Well, I think it's cool that they're making a "player" version on a JS100, but also consider that they got to pay Marvel some cash for the Surfer and JOE some cash because its his sig. Maybe they felt it wouldn't be cost effective to make a JS1000 a player. Who knows?
Honestly, I'm not surprised that limited editions cost lots of money. That's the nature of that market. I've always wanted an LNG guitar, though not necessarily a Jem. Them's the breaks.
Someone here made a KILLER Donnie in their custom shop, probably for much less than it would have cost to locate and buy the real McCoy.

Well, I was referring to the "player" SWTA JS100. At $1200 (is that the right price??), they are about a $400 premium over a regular JS100. Sooo ... Ibanez could have chosen to add the $400 upcharge to a JS1000 for their player model instead of the JS100, but they didn't. Maybe it makes more sense to their business model that way. Maybe it avoids cutting into the limited-edition sales. I think it would be a lot more interesting to buyers that way, but it's not my decision to make.

As always, they are what they are and they cost what they cost. Don't like it, don't buy it.

(Note, I have no problem with the pricing of either the SWTA or FIABD limited editions. They are collectors models and priced accordingly.)

If you really want one that bad just copy it as best you can.

Just been through the catalogue - Ibanez are marketing 129 models, excluding bass, acoustic, 2008 limited editions and J-Customs, or any one-off runs.

How much more joy do you need? Why should a worldwide limited run be priced around the Gio level?

Joe Satriani sig that won't cost arm + leg = JS 100.

This is a tired whine. If you're serious about collecting signature guitars, you'll pay. If you can't afford it, tough.
