Question

Is Joe Statriani using an EDGE Bridge in his JS1200CA?

From some pictures here and there, it looks to me like Satch's JS1200 CA has a different kind bridge, from the guitar sold in stores.

I know for sure that he has never used the LowPro EDGE, he has used the original EDGE may be from the begining, even before the JS series.

It looks like his JS1200 CA has also the original Edge bridge, but I'm not sure, I haven't seen Joe in concert playing that guitar, my last concert was in 2003. Any opinions here ??

yep i saw a picture and he is using and original edge bridge.

they are the best trems around. better than the newer versions, or at least i think so.

Re: Is Joe Statriani using an EDGE Bridge in his JS1200CA?

Joe has the original Edge in all his guitars, he simply likes the old profile better I guess. Personally I think he should have the Edge Pro in his newer guitars that, to me at least, would show that he fully supports the new Ibanez trems. But if I remember correctly Ibanez doesn't have to pay any license fee for the Original Edge until 2007 or something.

I think that in al fairness, Ibanez should offer the same guitar that Joe Plays, or at least have an option, kind of ala Custom Shop. I mean how more expensive the bridge can be, or machanically how much better or worse is the Edge, even with some improvements modifications, I don't think it'll cost more that $100 or so.

May be this is a good idea for a future Anniversary guitar. :-)

I feel that in this respect Ibanez needs to have more JS models, with more graduated prices and features, but for real life everyday players, with Joe Satriani approved features for him, as for the JS line.
Something like Fender with the Clapton guitars, you can buy the less espensive one, and you get all the basic features that Clapton plays, and they have excelelnt woods. From there, you can always buy a better Clapton guitar, more Custom Shop, a little better Maple on the neck, better finishes, even slightly different neck profiles, you know what I mean.

Even if the guitar goes for the $500 more than the regular production, but with the real stuff, like Rich mentions on his web page for the mods of the new bridge, or even the EDGE bridge, and with a consisten production, buyers will put the money together to buy it. May be in a year or so, but that is a better market, than just feeding the few collectors show rooms, don't you think.

Don't get me wrong, I've been very happy with my 2 JS1000 (BP and WH), and soon a JS1200, but if Joe is using the Edge, why not put it as an option to buy it, something like JS1200+ CA :-)

You're expecting custom options from Ibanez .

So, is it possible to straight up swap an Edge-pro for an original edge with no mods?

I'm not sure about that, I guess the only one that can tell us this is Rich from IbanezRules. I hope he reads this thread and can answer this question.

Wasn't the JS90th HAM produced with both original Edge and lo pro Edge?

To make the bridge it isnt much more expensive at all. And especially since they already have molds for it and do not have to design those. It would cost them a couple extra dollars to put another bridge in production, but a couple dollars is insignificant to most of us and certainly to Ibanez.

The thing is, the Edge is discontinued.
