Re: Jem and JS what styles?
Both guitars cover alot of ground in terms of playingstyles, but IMHO the JS model is better for the bluesy stuff and the JEM is better for the heavier.

Re: Jem and JS what styles?
A JEM definitely isn't a better guitar than a JS. It all depends on your personal preference. I haven't tried a real JEM before, but I have tried out a JS1000 before. One hell of an axe. Great for Bluesy and Van Halen stuff.

How do you know that a Jem isn't better if you haven't played one? It could be everything you've ever wanted in a guitar...

Re: Jem and JS what styles?
could anyone of you be so kind and explain the term "better" to me?
Every 'is xx better than yy??'-discussion is
absolutely pointless
, if you don't know/tell us what you want in a guitar.
For ex., a good starting point would be telling what exactly you didn't like on the JS100... the bridge? the sound? the neck?
Before that, you can not expect any serious and helpful discussion about it.
The 1000 and the 7v both are top of the line instruments.
Benz or porsche?

What I meant when I said 'better' isn't entirely based on the guitar. Its more of what one is looking for in a guitar. Just go to any
Les Paul
fan and ask them 'which is better? A JEM or a Les Paul?'. I'm sure they'll tell you which one is better.

Re: Jem and JS what styles?
ashton is there a guitar store near to you that will have either a JS1000 in stock and Jem7VWH or a Jem7VSBL? The letter 2 jems are basically the same but in different colours and any pre 2003 Jem7VWHs will have ebony fingerboards as apposed to the Jem7VBSL's
rosewood board
.
My point is that both guitars are fantastic. They both have their strengths, in my opinion, the Jem is a better guitar, i think it's more versatile, and i love 24fret necks, but it's up to you.
You won't go wrong with either of them, i suggest spending a good deal of time playing both of them, you should hopefully know which is best for you.

Re: Jem and JS what styles?
I never understood the X is better than Y for metal but Y is better than Z for blues.
I mean Yngwie, and SRV both use strats but play completely different styles of music.
Zakk Wylde
plays metal on a guitar made for a guy who played guitar long before distortion was. How can one guitar be better than another for a style of music, it seems any guitar can cover any style.
In this case your comparing 2 very similar guitars dual humbuckers(granted the jem has a single coil too), with
floating trems
, thin bolt-on necks.

Re: Jem and JS what styles?
totally agree on what elcid said, but can anyone tell me what would the diference be between the neck of a JS100 and the neck of the JS1200, are both the same?

Re: Jem and JS what styles?
I think it's odd that everybody is looking at the guitars themselves, as if it doesn't matter what you're plugged into.
A good preamp is going to get you all the tones you want as long as you have decent pickups, which both guitars in question have.
You can love the sound of a jem and hate a JS, swap the pickups and feel exactly the opposite.
Play what feels good in your hands and then pick a good, versatile preamp.

It depends on what JEM. A 7VWH or any Evo equipped JEM is a big no no for me. A
Paf Pro
or Breed equipped JEM is greatly accepted
. I voted for the JEM because its more suitable for the music I play (Vai, Van Halen). The reason why I picked the JEMs is because I can't play my favourite Vai songs with just 22 frets.
