JS 1 vs. JS 1000 - What's the dif?

I hear all this stuff about the JS 1, but I've never seen a pic before, or any info about it. *Can someone tell me the differences between this and the JS 1000?

Virtually identical except for color options. The first 1's had the original Edge in chrome. There was a HSH config on the 92-93' 1's. Post 98' 1000's have the multi radiused fretboard digitized from Joe's chromeboy.

Cool stuff. *Kinda reminds me of things like Micromachines for some reason. *There's so many little variations of the same thing. *Color, and other small details. *Thanks

I am glad to hear the difference is actually small. I thought the difference was JS999 which is a lot.

You can always tell when I post late can't you?

Mahogony body hardtail (MIJ) available in 92' and 3'. Followed by the 6000 which had the cheesy inlay.

I remember the JS6, it came out right around the time of Joe's self-titled return-to-roots album. *That was a dark time:

JS6
Joe Satriani blues album
Vai's "S&R"
Van Halen's BALANCE

I feared that good guitar was dead.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with Joe's self titled album. *I love it. *I haven't listened to S&R, but I want to hear what it's like.

Joe Satriani (blues album) is my fave overall. I stopped buying VH records after 1984 ...glen

Glen- you missed out on some GREAT guitar work on "5150". *
Wanna borrow my signed 5150 CD? *

I'm not a big fan of JS guitars, but the mahogany one with the P-90'ish pickups was pretty sweet...for a non-trem guitar. *:-)

The quality of Joe's self titled album was beside the point. *At the time of it's release, rock was mired in the dark gloom that was the corpse of grunge and post-alternative sissy-boys. *Oasis and their ilk ruled the charts and I was hoping for someone to make expressive, technically beautiful music, and in that respect, the self-titled album completely let me down. *I personally saw that as a step back for Joe. *Like he was scared to put an album like Extremist out in that musical climate, so he backed down and turned down, just as all the other unplugged acts were doing. *In retrospect, S&R is not a horrible album, but you'd be hard-pressed to find someone who was impressed with it as a follow up to Passion and Warfare.

Kevan, I like the guitar SOLOS on 5150, but it turned out later that those had been complete long before most of the songs were written. *One day, I'd love to hear the original versions of Good Enough and 5150 and Summer Nights that Dave recorded with Ed in '83. *Sammy just ruins it for me.

I don't like VH, i dunno why, his style just doesn't appeal to me. *I bought Best of Vol. II and I didn't like it. *The only song I ever listened to was Eruption. *Are you sure Joe "held back"? *Maybe he just decided he should try releasing a blues album to see how the fans like it, or he just wanted to try something new. *It's not very often you will hear "Joe Satriani or Steve Vai have got the #1 spot on this weeks top 20 list". *They're just not in that category, not mainstream blah stuff like pop bands are now. *

Joe didn't "hold back" or fear anything. :lame: Jeesh just look at the followup to SURFIN to realize he wasn't going to cookie-cut out rehashes. If anything you can fault Steve for TRYING TOO HARD to be popular/mainstream as S&R reflects that, besides failing miserably on all levels IMHO.

Next up, at the time of those album's release there was a heavy rock 'n roll presence in the market, unlike today (with teenage popstars).

Finally, it would be nice to please stop pigeon-holing "grunge" as kurt-like guitar playing, etc. That is totally wrong from my perspective, having lived thru all these eras. Also, in the early 90s there were MANY top guitar albums by bands at the time (Soundgarden for example) that devours the glam rock weedly-weedly "sissy" nonsense (using your terminology) it replaced... glen

I've never heard P&W before but I've heard it's his biggest album ever, and from the way people have spoken about it, he really tried very hard. *It doesn't bother me that he tried hard to make a great album, but I don't think he should try to become mainstream. *I don't think that could ever happen, not enough of an audience IMO.
