You are also willing to accept the consequences of a double-locking
floating tremolo
?
In that case, excellent choice.

Re: JS 1000 or JS 1200 for beginner
Yea, it's quite hard to just tune a floating tremolo. Changing
string guage
or tuning requires a lot of adjustments to the bridge (the bridge 'floats' at the equilibrium between
string tension
and the springs in the back of the guitar).
Also, a floating tremolo will make things like double bends more difficult.
In short, unless you actually plan to use the floating tremolo to its fullest, you're better off without a tremolo. Purists will also argue that no tremolo will give better tone and sustain.
You could have a tremsetter or tremol-no installed to improve stability or even lock the bridge in place... but why bother if you're not going to be using a tremolo in the first place?
However, if you do want to go for a floating tremolo, then the Ibanez ones are the best out there.

Re: JS 1000 or JS 1200 for beginner
Are there any good quality
Ibanez guitars
like the 320Q or JS Series without the temolo. I would be quite happy playing tracks like down down down, which I guess dosent ues the tremolo that much.
Also Happy Christmas, may you have a good one.

Yes, as mentioned, there is the JS2000, which has a
fixed bridge
(still double-locking). Alternatively there are also the JS600 and JS700 with fixed bridges, and possibly even other models.
And there are also loads of RGs with a fixed bridge:

You could also check out other
fixed bridge models
from Ibanez, such as the SZ:

Re: JS 1000 or JS 1200 for beginner
I have played guitar for 10 years, when I got my first fixed bridge. Before it was always floaters (vintage or FR). I think my technique did not suffer at all (I have kind of short fingers though) through playing with thin necks.
I now have a JEM and I love it. I almost never wrap my thump around (unless I really need that thump to silence the low E or do some "thump" technique chords).
I think the JS would make an excellent guitar. Both the 1000 and 1200 are excellent, they just sound a little different. The sound that will most suit you, we cannot tell you. You would have to try both.
Make sure to checkout Ibanezrules he can give you very good advise, you might want to drop Rich an Email.

I say, if you have the patience and time, get the RG320Q. Great guitar.

Check out Item number: 330198616617 I was going to bid but want too sure that all the bidders were legit, one guy with zero feedback but 17 bids on the guitar, and every bid he's ever placed was with the seller. Nice guitar though.

I saw that...it looks good, I wouldn't kick it out of the collection for not having a wang bar, but I would rather have another JS1000 or earlier years model.
Plus, I don't think I could buy a guitar from
there
, if you know what I mean.

Re: JS 1000 or JS 1200 for beginner
Well, sometimes you can strike lucky, but who knows if the guitar has something thats virtually impossible to repair, like a twisted neck. I have sold a few on the bay (which were 100% mint), but only bought 1, which someone had removed the neck and refitted, never did find out why, but the neck bolts/screws were badly messed up, somthing that couldnt be seen in the photos.

Re: JS 1000 or JS 1200 for beginner
dont be put off with the floating trem, its not rocket science setting them up. If you get the JS2000 then at a later date you'll still be thinking about the JS1200 or others with
floating trems
.
If your happy with its initial set up when you get it, when it comes time to replacing strings, take one off at a time and replace them one by one, or if you need access to the neck more easy to clean it take 2 off at a time, this way the bridge will stay in the same floating position. Or pad the cavity so trem is in the right place, then remove strings and re-string.

Re: JS 1000 or JS 1200 for beginner
I dunno... for some people it's pretty logical to set up and maintain a floating bridge... You don't even need to tell them, they'll figure it out themselves.
Others will never get the hang of it, even though you've explained it to them, and in theory they understand what to do.
It doesn't come natural to them.
I guess you have to figure out in which category you fit. Why don't you buy a cheap (secondhand) Ibanez with trem and play around with it, until you find out whether floating trems are for you or not. I would recommend a Korean-made Ibanez S, eg an S470. I think they play really nice, sound good, and the ZR tremolo is fantastic, very stable and easy to work. Excellent value for money I say (I recently picked up the S7320 myself, the 7-string version).
If it's your thing, you can sell the cheap Ibanez and get a JS, or some Prestige/J-Custom model. If not, well, you didn't waste a lot of money on an expensive new guitar. New guitars drop the most in price in their first 1-2 years. After that, they generally retain value pretty well.
