JS 1200 Whammy Bar
Hi, I've been having a bit of trouble with my whammy arm on my guitar, for some reason, its really loose and won't stay where I want it, now, common sense says that the nylon washers are worn and need replacing, but since I've used the thing only very few times I doubt this is the case. Any ideas?
Also, I wouldnt mind it moving about freely its just that when i let it go, the arm swings back ontop of the second control pot thus rendering the guitar out of tune..

Re: JS 1200 Whammy Bar
Read the tech section at Ibanez Rules (banner above) on how to tighten the armholder.

Re: JS 1200 Whammy Bar
I doubt the arm holder is loose, but the trem angle is definitely not right

Re: JS 1200 Whammy Bar
Hmm, it is angled down into the cavity a bit I suppose, rather than dead straight.
Loosen the screws holding the
trem springs
rite?

The trem angle has to be straight, check the manual and then loosen the trem string screws.

Re: JS 1200 Whammy Bar
I have the JS1200 and even with the trem angle being perfect, some days it will stay where I want it to and some days it will be loose. It doesn't really matter to much for me.

Re: JS 1200 Whammy Bar
I have a JS1000 .. I removed the bushings from the arm, then painted some of my wife's nailpolish in the grooves. Once it dried I put the bushings back on and now the bar stays where I put it! A very thin coating of nailpolish will do the trick, too much will make it hard to put the arm back in.

Re: JS 1200 Whammy Bar
I don't much mind the looseness, its just that if you pull out the tone pot, the arm gets stuck on it - resting - so it goes out of tune.
It just seems to be a design flaw as far as I can see...

Re: JS 1200 Whammy Bar
If your arm is hitting the pot, the
bridge angle
is wrong.

Re: JS 1200 Whammy Bar
Its perfectly flat and straight now, so if its perfectly flat, it should miss the pot right? Maybe I'm missing something, but the height of the fully extended tone pot is more than the height of the bar when the trem is straight....
At least it stays in tune though! (at last)

My trem are touches the push pull pots, too. And my angle is definately set right. Now my action is pretty low, like 1.5mm at the 12th fret, high E. That might have something to do with it.
It's not a big problem, though, since it just barely grazes it. I've thought about changing over to a mini-toggle for the
coil tapping
and just making the treble boost permanent on the vol.

Re: JS 1200 Whammy Bar
You could bend the arm a little (but if you try, do it VERY carefully ... the arm will break easily).

Re: JS 1200 Whammy Bar
I did the nail polish technique. I put a bit too much on one slot of the bar and I gotta real give it a push to get it in. Hopefully it'll slightly loosen.
