JS-6 Setup Questions

I recently got a JS-6 and want to get the most bang for my buck as it were. I had to intonate, clean and string it, but now I want to tweak the action a bit. What is the regular way to check the string height? If I fret the strings at the 12th fret, I have about 3/16" string height still. I kind of figured I should be able to get it a little lower to fit my playing. My style of playing lends itself to little picking during soloing and more hammer-on pull-off technique. Any suggestions on "Tweaking" would be greatly appreciated
